exhaust question

I am fixing to up grade my truck and have learned to start out with the air flow and exhust. I spoke with someone about my exhaust and they recomended sevearl exhaust kits all are 4" of course. I got underneath my truck to learn that my truck has a 4" exhaust already! So I would just need to replace my restrictive exhaust muffler....correct? Or do I need to buy a whole new system, I would not know why, or am I measuring it wrong? Any suggestions are much appreciated.

exhaust

I just did the same thing and changed out the exhaust turbo back.If you have a stock 04 the exhaust is 3.5" from the turbo to the muffler and 4.0" out of the muffler to the tail pipe.
The elbow on the turbo is cut down to 3.5 leaving. I used an elbow from a 05 which is 4.0" in and out and put a Silverline 4 inch system turbo back.
I hope this helps.

thanks for the info, I guess I should have measured before the muffler too!

Crowbar,
If you don't mind how much did your exhaust setup run you? And do you by chance have the part number for the 04 elbow? I have a buddy that works for the local dealer and may be able to get me a deal.

Trying to get some ideas to keep me busy until next hunting season. I figured you'd like that one, I got a couple more that I switch out every so often.

Chad

BTW...Mark, what in the heck is that in yours?

The bends in aftermarket exhaust systems will allow it to flow better even if it is still 4" But the most restrictive part of the exhaust system is the muffler so you could save some cash and just replace the muffler and that elbow.

I am thinking about 5" myself for my work truck. I have found straight pipe systems for under 300 bucks.
