Exhaust prices, 4" or 5"
Looking for best price on aluminized exhaust turbo back 03 LB. I'm not sure if there would be an advantage going to a 5" system. What EGT drops do you see? My downloader is at 90 HP all the time and the EGT's rise fairly fast and defueling starts up. I would like to run 130 hp program but the temps may get too high. I tow my boat trailer with my 2500 lb camper in mountainous terrain. Any ideas? Thanks and happy holidays.
only advantage w/ 5" is sound. 4" should actually perform a little better...
and with that said, I would just make use of your stock exhaust... run 4" from the downpipe back to an aftermarket muffler, and into your stock 4" tailpipe.

Why stop at 5"??
Just go to a 16" and get it over with! Who cares about no clearance under the truck. Of course you might come out one day and find someone living in there! Heck, they might be parking in there! You could crawl up through the pipe to inspect the turbo. Hmmm, I like that idea, where's that catalogue?

Dyno numbers that have been posted over time show unless BIG h.p.the 5 inch hurts. There is such a thing as too large! If under 500 h.p. 4 inch system works best.Same as on on gas engines,on stock or near it, full tube headers and true duals hurt low end and some mid range.Shorty headers and a single 2.5 inch keep or help low end.The dyno shows the proof in it.
Cleaver,
We too would steer you away from a 5 inch in most cases, we sell them everyday but for the majority of customers the 4 inch system is way plenty. We have quality 4 and 5 inch systems available, ours differ from some of the lower priced ones in that we use a ceramic blanket and stainless steel wool as packing material for our mufflers. A lot of the systems out there don't use any muffler packing and that ends up being a restriction in the system, there are also ones that use low temp fiberglass that blows out in a few short weeks and then they get louder than a lot of customers prefer, we sell a lot of replacement mufflers for those systems every day here at DPPI. Plus our aluminized as well as all of our stainless systems have welded hangers on them instead of the clamp on style. That makes installation easier and looks more OEM original like the stock system is.
