Are there any concerns with the thermocouple wearing and breaking apart with time and going through the turbo? I'm getting ready to install my pyro and was leaning towards placing it about 3" below the turbo in the downpipe. High temp range is 700 - 900 degrees there.

I have 2 temp probes on mine. One is in the manifold, and one in the elbow post turbo. During idle, the post turbo runs slightly hotter (approx 50 degrees), but during operation and heavy acceleration, a good average is 200 degrees cooler on the post turbo probe.

The whole point of having an EGT gauge is to know how hot the egts are, so why put it so far away from the source of the heat. They also say that any thing above 1600 degrees extended is bad for the motor and the probes are good to 2000 - 2200, so whats going to burn up faster? I will chance the turbo over the motor any day.

I've seen some posts where the hole for the pyro is drilled with dry, sharp, graduated bits and threaded with the turbo left in place, then vacuum & spin the wheel. Is this safe? Seems to be working.
