Easy horsepower

I was talking to a guy today, and somehow the subject of trucks came up. He ended up telling me was a Cummins mech for 25 years. He has a 2000 dodge diesel and I have 2004.5 diesel. He said (not to tell anyone) but the easiest way to get some extra horsepower (45), was to cap the fuel return line at the end of the injectors. Is this true, safe, or has anyone else tried this?

I imagine that would force the rail pressures through the roof, forcing the pressure limiting valve on the rail to open. And if you boys are thinking about capping the return from the pressure limiting valve......remember we are talking 25,000+ psi....and that pump can put out more than that.

Do you reallllllly want to blow up the HPFP or a seal or two with 25000psi fuel spraying everywhere at 60 mph???????????????????????????

And the 2nd thing is, he might be talking about a 2nd gen 24v.....

We use to do that years ago on the old 300hp cummins on frieght trucks to get a little more power out of them when we went from pulling double trailers to pulling tripples. Took a small pear of needle vise grips & clamped the return line to about half return. Worked pretty good & don't recall any grenading motors.

Would I do it with my own rig, heck no, I don't have the resources for that kind of experimenting if things went south.

I don't have the resources either to try something like that. I do have an old army dump truck with a kaiser engine I may try it on that. It seems like it would work if the psi wasn't 25,000.

Its not going to work. The fuel systems are totally different from the style he is talking about.

Dont do it.

that would elevate fuel temps and pressure, even make your truck run with LESS hp. Seal issues too.

I know if you do it on a "Detroit" S60 it defiantely decreases power.
