Dual Wheel Spacers for Larger Tires

I am in the market to buy some dual rear wheel adapters for my 2002 dodge. I an tired of running whimpy 235.85.R16s. I want to run 265.75.R16s or 255.85.R16s. I found a guy in LA, CA that machines the 2 inch, hub-centric, 8" on 6.5" spacers but he wants $140 each for them with all the hardware. His spacers also require running a 4 7/8 bore Ford rim on the outside or boring the 4 3/4 Dodge rim out to 4 7/8. I don't want to do that. I'm not putting Ford parts on my Dodge for anyone! Does anyone know a place where these can be purchased cheaper? I'd be greatful for any advice anyone has on saftey using these spacers and whether to use billet 6061 Al or make them from steel. I am a hobby cad designer and actuall have a 2 inch spacer modeled. If anyone knows a good machine shop that can mill them from an imported cad file, I'd be greatful for the info also. Thanks for reading. JWB

255/85/16's will fit on your 02 w/o spacers.

Thanks K2. I take it you have mounted the 255s before? That is the size I'd like to use, I just hate to buy them and mount them and find out that they rub when I'm loaded down with my 24' steel gooseneck trailer. I even thought about buying two extra rims for the outside wheels of the duals with more offset in them. That would actually be cheaper than the spacers. Thanks again. JWB

Yep I have 255's right now. No rubbing issues in over 2 years. The most that I have ever towed was about 12K with them.

I actually have some of those aluminum spacers, had them for my old doge to run the new dodge wheel, so the spacing would be right, think the fronts are 1.5 inchs and the backs are 1.75. They spacers bolt onto the lugs then the other wheel bolts onto it. Not sure if it would work on your application. I have them just sitting inthe basement and no need, so if anbody needs spacers PM me. Will send any photos you'd like to see. Missing 6 of the lug nuts for them, would buy them if you really wanted a kit, or two, let me know guys = )

I got my spacers from that same guy you are talking about. You won't be using any Ford parts, the hub hole on the outside wheel just needs machined a tad to slip over the lip of the spacer (to the same size as a Fords hub). Dodge's hub hole is too tiny for a lip. They are very nice spacers for the money, and I have ZERO vibrations. Plus with these you will be able to use the OEM lugs and retain your center cap. I was thinking about going with aftermarket aluminum wheels (Eagle Alloy's I think), they utillize the acorn style lugs for the outters which will also center the wheel. But I just couldn't afford 6 tires, wheels, and spacers all at once.

Anyway, the bottom line here is his spacers rock, and you won't be dissapointed. Best of luck with it.

TAS05CTD610, I'm interested in those spacers of yours. I PM'ed you about them. Thanks again.

All, just in case anyone is interested, I actually took the 256.75.R16s off the font of my truck and put them together on the rear yesterday. The tires don't touch, but are only about .5 inches apart when loaded with the weight of the truck (and all the crap in my tool box and aux diesel tank). I might go with the 255s unless my buddy here hooks me up with his spacers.

Thanks for all the replies!

You can also buy you two steel dually wheels from a junkyard, cut the center section out, grind them perfectly round (8-9 inches in diameter) and use one between each dual as a spacer, it's only about 1/4 inch wide, so you'll have plenty of lug length left. I ran these on my 2000 dually w/ 255's for over 3 years. Provides a little extra clearance to haul heavy.
I still have them if your interested. Make me an offer?

Ramasaur,

Well, I'll tell ya. I actually have two spacers that are made of .375 inch plate. I drew them up on the computer a few years ago and had the vo-tech boys drill them out for me for free. I ran them on my '99 and now on my new 2002, but there is a problem. The more I learn about the hub-centric thing, my .375 spacers actually take the outside rim off the centering boss on the hub. I have ran them for over 5 years now with no problem. That is good because I have grossed over 28,000 lbs with a loaded gooseneck several times and ran across the state; God bless that Cummins! I might try the 255s without spacers unless I can actually find the hub-centric 2 inch spacer that are machined for this hub. I actually have cad version of the spacer that I want to make, I just need to find a machine shop that will upload the program and mill them out for me for a decent price. The 2 inch spacers on the market are $140 each. That is too much for a chunk of metal for me. Thanks for the offer and I'll keep that little trick in mind.

TAS05CTD610 upstairs here had me goin', but come to find out his spacers are lug centering, not hub centering.

Anyone else out there got used spacers for a good ol' boy?

Thanks again,

JWB

Now that....requires no words.....just a bunch of gruntin' and beer chugin'! It would also bring a scretchin' hault to pulling gooseneck trailers.

Still looking for those hub centering spacers. Anyone out there got any ideas? Sounds like most are using a spacer with out a hub centering lip on them.

Stockton told me that they only make lug centering spacers.

Thanks,

JWB

Fred is the ONLY one that makes them. And machining the hub hole on the OEM Dodge wheel to the size of a Ford's hub is the ONLY way to allow enough media on the spacer for a lip. I've called over a dozen places, and for hub centric this is it. Lug centric is another story, you can go pretty much anywhere.
