Question Looking for 10 or 12 ply truck tires larger then stock dually tires.

Does anyone know where I can find some tires that are at least an E rating that are wider then the stock 235/80/17 on the 04 dually?

I was going to go with the 315's but they are D rated...lighter sidewall, not good for towing heavy.
Then I looked at a 305...same thing.
The only thing I have found so far is whats on the 2500's.
Michelin and BFG [aren't they the same company now too?]
I would consider going with the 265/70/17 E Michelin but would this tire be slightly shorter then the ones on the truck now?

Its not easy to find an alternative for my training wheels.

You want to be real careful about wider dual tires. You said towing heavy, if too wide and they spread and touch tou will have serious problems.

You seem to be made of money.

Have you looked into PJ's?

They make some tall tires that still have the "E" rating.

They have a 33, 35 and 38 inch tires for 17 inch rims.

I would have to find a wider rim for these....33X12.50R17/E correct? Thats the other thing I want to be careful of...undersized width can create a lot of sidewall heat with a heavy load if its on a too narrow wheel.

Otherwise, nice choice Phox.

The widest 17 dually rim I found was a 7" by WELD.

Scotty
p.s. This is for some magazine articles so the price will be...RIGHT!

Oh, didn't think of that.

You'd need at a 10 inch rim for those 12 inch wide tires.

I love my dually but I am not liking my tire/wheel options.

It does look as though I may go to the Michelin 265/70/17 E . Its not an LTX though.

That should still look good on the duals. I hope.

I suppose you have considered 19.5's? Or are you not wanting to change wheels, just tires? There are a couple of really good traction treads out there for 19.5" rims, some are pretty wide, others not so much. www.chromewheel.com has some good pictures of tires and trucks! Some guys even are putting on "Super Singles" these days! I think a 22.5 inch wheel can look kind of strange, but some of those trucks look really pretty cool. My $0.02.

I would be adding over 600 pounds of weight with the 19.5's.
I considered these but with the auxillary fuel tank with fuel [66 gallons], the weight of the advance air ride hitch [275lbs], tools, stereo gear, me and the loads I will be hauling, I will have to watch what else goes on the truck.

I think the factory wheels are 70-80 pounds each, 80 x 7 = 560 pounds.
The 19.5's are 170 each x 7 = 1190 or 630 pounds more.

Thanks for taking the time to show some alternatives.

p.s. I want to be careful on the ride height as well. Pulling a 5th wheel trailer and clearing the bed rails by at least 5-6 inches can be a bigger problem if I raise the truck more.

Sounds like you would've been great with a SRW with 19.5's!

Joshua,

Thanks for the link. I've got a woody looking at this thing.

The obvious and huge downside is the unsprung weight of the tires/wheels. I wonder how long my Dana 60's would last with all that weight at the end of them? I'd be interested if anybody is actually running this setup and could provide insight into longevity of the drivetrain.

On the upside, driving in snow would no longer be a problem.

Dodge Dually Spacers

I need help finding a company or someone who makes some rear spacers for my 05 3500 Dually. I think i will only need like a 2.5 inch. I am wanting to run some 265/70/17 inch tires and need a way to space my tires where they dont rub. I was also hoping i wouldnt need a bunch of new lug nuts and all that to make it work. Can anybody help me? Thanks

I know this is an old post but...

I weighed my Ricksons on a bathroom scale. dunno how accurate that is. They were only 90# each with Load Range H 245/70/19.5" tires.

Why exactly do you want wider?

I gave up on wider as the plies are not enough for heavy towing. I have 7 TOYO HT's arriving here in late April.
Same size as the stock 17".

Theres a picture in my gallery.
