DTT in Abbotsford BC
Isn't the OP taking about a local dealer and not DTT itself?? Local dealers can and will do things they think they can get away with, that said most are honest but there are exceptions to ever rule. The buddies shop has no horse in the race so he has no interest in lying to the guy about what he found when he took it apart. As for taking it back to the first shop, they could have replaced the TC as a warranty repair but it could just have been replaced with another TC that was not what the guy thought he purchased and would never heard that the input shaft was not as specified.
The warrenty was up on the tranny which was why he didn't go back there.
He went to this guy because he does the work at his house for a lot cheaper then DTT in abbotsford does it. It isn't even a tranny shop. So he has no interest in trying to sabatoge DTT
The new "buddy" is new to me and my friend who had the work done, but has been good friends with another friend of ours for a few years and has built a few trannys for friends.
No matter how good a company is there's always going to be one or two bad dealings at some point. Just because they've been awesome every other time doesn't mean they couldn't have been bad this time.
As for me I like to hear the bad with the good about any place. I'll make the comparison to buying on ebay... even the best sellers have a couple negative feed backs left for them. I like to find them and read them. Doesn't mean I won't buy from them... just like to know what happened.
People getting mad at me for telling them about a bad experience with a certain shop just because they've been good before is silly.
Its not the bad experience but rather the incomplete data.
There was a large thread on here about another vendor close to my area that was raked over the coals about another shop finding that the flex plate was not billet or laminated for high HP. What actually happened is that the shop that pulled the part wasn't educated enough to know the difference. In the mean time the local vendor got a bad rap on multiple websites for an error in identifying the part.
