Thumbs down DTT in Abbotsford BC

I just want to let people know about what happened with a buddy of mine. Dunno if this is the right section for it... but its about his after market tranny parts from DTT.
Anyways, about a year ago he went to them and had them install a billet input shaft and an aftermarket torque converter.... plus a few other things.
About a week ago the tranny started to slip really badly and we've since become friends with a guy in harrison that builds tranny's. Buddy took it to him and we pulled it apart. To his suprise... no billet shafts and the torque converter was a less expensive model then he paid for. Obviously he was ******. Phoned up DTT and they said since they weren't the ones who took it apart that it's his problem since he could've taken the parts out.

I just wanted to give people the heads up about them. Always sucks when you get ripped off by someone!!

Something's not right. DTT would have been the FIRST call I'd have made. They back their stuff up. A trip to them would have made more sense.

Well I am not taking sides on this either way but I agree that there is a possibility that who ever opened the trans up could have swapped parts in a hurry.

Did your buddy stand there and watch him open it?

No he wasn't there when it was opened. The guy did call him as soon as he opened it and had him come over though. He remembered my friend had said he put a billet shaft in, so as soon as he saw it wasn't, he got the call. They didn't figure out it wasn't the right torque converter either until they looked at the bill. The other things he paid for were done though.
I'm not saying they did it on purpose.... could've been a mistake in the shop between two trannys... who knows.
Always good to get info out there though

Well that just don't sound like Bill & Stephen's way of doing buisness. I spent days in there shop while my truck was being worked on the full meal deal on my 01 as well as watching the work in progress. Also saw a couple of tranny's being built on the bench & seen 1st hand what was going into them. It's been 8 yrs or so since I was last up there but I have been to a couple of races where Stephen raced & the whole family has treated me as family rather than just a customer. I think something is fishey about this. I'm just saying.

I agree, it just doesn't make sense. A company like DTT knows if they sell something as a billet input and it isn't that it will come back to them, I just can not see that happening, at least not on purpose.

Sounds like confusion on what was purchased, or a mistake in processing, I doubt very highly it was intentional in any way shape or form.

I would have to see the proof on that one. DTT has been making race transmissions for Dodge since I can remember and their #1 goal was always to put out the best product.

I really don't like stories that start out "a buddy of mine"..

Sounds like BS to me. Why, after spending the money for a built trans, did he NOT get DTT involved?
They have dealers all over the country and one could have been found to fix the issue.
Why go on a public forum and slam someone?
What is the rest of the story?

Who looked at the shaft and said it wasn't a billet shaft? How did they make that determination?

That's the problem I have with this story so far....."a buddy of mine"

You obviously were not there and didn't see what was going on/happening but with second hand information, you are slamming DTT who have been a top notch business for years.

BUT, within a few days you "become friends" with this guy in Harrison and take his word for it that the parts were not installed.

I may not be the sharpest knife in the drawer but I am reading a load of BS. I would be looking at your transmission friend before I made any noise.

And to boot, it seems DTT has been down this road before with your comment on them saying "since they weren't the ones who took it apart that it's his problem since he could've taken the parts out." I've seen that happen many times.

No sympathy from me!

Jeff

Since I know NOTHNG about DTT and what their warranty period is, and the specificity of their warranty is . .

All I can say is IF this tranny was warrantied, it should have gone to them. If it was NOT warrantied, then I can understand taking it elsewhere, BUT, DTT may have stood behind their product even if it was out of warranty, as that has been the case in many instances when low mileage is involved.

Your 'buddy' was/is a fool NOT to have been there when the case was broken open . . period . . end of subject. He is now at the mercy of whomever, but did not take good care of himself. Maybe not in the first place with DTT either. I have ALWAYS been there to see what is being done, wanted to see the new parts going in and also wanted to see what came out. You have only yourself to look out for, everyone COULD do you if given the opportunity.

DTT has an excellent reputation. How about this 'new' tranny shop. Has your taken the time to check into their reputation??

Sorry - more to this story as far as I am concerned.

Isn't the OP taking about a local dealer and not DTT itself?? Local dealers can and will do things they think they can get away with, that said most are honest but there are exceptions to ever rule. The buddies shop has no horse in the race so he has no interest in lying to the guy about what he found when he took it apart. As for taking it back to the first shop, they could have replaced the TC as a warranty repair but it could just have been replaced with another TC that was not what the guy thought he purchased and would never heard that the input shaft was not as specified.
