do you have a ton of cash in your motor or truck ? ....
I'm lucky enough to live in an area where we don't have to lock our doors and I also leave my keys in my vehicles. Living here is also a big benefit when buying insurance because our rates are dirt cheap compared to livin' in the city.
Thanks for some of the great responses! That fact is though.... some of you say to not say a thing until after the fact. That's crazy ! That's like having your house burn down and then telling the Ins. Co. you had a Picasso or two in there. They'd laugh !
The only way to be covered is to be up front with them and pay the price. I know this and I just wanted to see others stories
It wouldn't matter if it was a race motor or a reman... if you have the cash in it....it's worth being covered for it.

True on what you have posted. Kinda.
Your $$ went up because you told them then what you had put into your truck. Play dumb.
You did not know you had to tell them " Mr. Ins. agent, I have just installed all these goodies" to have them covered. You keep the records and reciepts.
Your tools should be covered under your home owners ins. anyways, not your car/truck ins. policy. And your tools will be covered if you get some good pic's of them, even without reciepts. Give THOSE to the ins. co. as they are on your home owners policy. In fact, give them lots of pic's of everything in the house. That will help for both your tools and your household stuff. Well, you can just keep them in your safety deposit box, try to date the pic's some how. Make sure you have pic's of the wifes jewelry also.

You try that "play it dumb" stuff and you won;t get a dime from the insurance company for your upgrades. Just look at what they are doing down in Mississippi and Lousiana to Katrina victims. They are refusing to pay out to many thousands of people down there who lost their homes because they say the hurricane coverage those poeple have on their houses does not cover the "flood damage that destroyed their house". That's what you're up against here. If you don't pay the extra coverage you ain't gonna get squat for your mods... Just look at what happened to this guy and he's not the only one:
I ran into this problem with a Chevy 4dr dually that I had built a few years ago that was stolen. It had 12" lift, straight axle conversion, built 454, custom interior an stereo, among many other mods. After waiting for a month to see if truck was every found the insurance company offered me less than half what I had in truck an I had receipts on everything they only wanted to pay me for a stock truck. So after turning down there offer we had to go into mediation an both hire independent adjusters an let them hash it out. This took another 2 months an I only got 3k more an had to pay adjuster 500 so I still ended up loosing about 10k. I was told the only way to cover all the extras is to get a stated value policy you don't have to list all your mods just tell them what your trucks worth but it will cost a higher premium. Im in the process of moding my dodge an will up my coverage when im done id rather pay a few more dollars a month than loose thousands if stolen.
