Disconnected wastegate pro vs con

I've been having problems building boost past 25 psi for several weeks now so I decided to do some minor testing. I presurized the intercooler to check for any leaks in the boots and the intercooler (plastic one) and everything checked out fine. My next step was to clamp off the wastegate. After doing this I can build boost with no problem (40 psi). I'm almost positive my electronic actuator is the problem. Should I replace the actuator or leave the wastegate closed off? If I leave it clamped off will this cause any problems down the road? Thanks in advance

Your wastegate would end up seizing and you could overspool your turbo. If you ever planned on adding more power down the road, you would need the wastegate to help regulate turbo speed. You could set the Juice to defuel at 40 psi or so, but that is no fun having all that surging when the skinny pedal is smashed.

I hooked up a manual boost controller and fixed the same problems that you have.

I welded a 1/8in. bung in the turbo discharge pipe and plumbed it into there. It took a while to get the boost and bleed set right so there was no surging. I made a little bracket and mounted it by the air filter for easy adjustment. Besides welding the bung in the pipe, it was a piece of cake.

I plan on getting a new turbo. I just wondered how long I could keep it like this till I get it. And yes I do have the Edged set to defuel at 40 psi

I have the same problem on my truck only it is with an aftermarket turbo. This turbo spooled just fine on my 03 but something in the 07 won't let it get past 30psi unless I clamp off the wastegate hose.

Sounds like you need a boost fooler. Your trucks ECM will not let the turbo spool past the safety parameters. You could disconnect your wastegate however it will throw an overboost code.

Sorry, Didn't see it in your sig. Do you have the stock fuel system?

I was running the Diablosport Predator and it did it even with that on the truck. Fuel pressure was still positive so it's not running out of fuel. My fuel system is totally stock.
There's not much in my sig anymore BTW....

Sounds like the electronic actuator for the wastegate opening up before full boost. I think the chips/boxs are killing them. I know of alot of 3rd gen trucks that are having this same problem.
