Sorry for my ignorance on common rail engines (I'm a 1st gen guy after all) but what engine would be a good starting point to use with the stand alone engine controller?

Bud if you are talking about the controller like the chevy efi live that I have heard about for the dodge I don't know of anyone that has one. with the stacking combos we have available on the third gens I don't think many of us are willing to buy something that expensive or build motor after motor after we burn them down researching new technology. That is if I understand what you are talking about

If that controller would run the six speed tranny, it would be a way to put the new tranny in the older Dodge. I want a way to control the Aisin or Dodge six speeds. Also, if it would run the VGT it would be nice for the older trucks.

 

Are there any third gen engines to stay away from, or ar they all about the same? I would want a VGT, but did they have those on any 5.9's or only on 6.7's?

Did you hear this from someone? According to their literature this controller was developed for diesel aviation, so it's not a brand new box.
