The "tow/haul" button is the OD (over drive) button. If it is depressed (tow/haul activated), it will lock in 3rd gear and not shift into 4th (OD).

ok, gotcha. No, the Tow/Haul is not activated. Do you have any idea's, like what I was asking about the resistor or the jumper wire? I indicated my wiring in my previous post. I know it works because it locks up the tranny, but as I said when locking it in 3rd and accelerate it will not go into OD nor will it come out of lock mode unless I turn the key off and start back up. Turning the switch off once the toggle is turned off does not put it back into normal mode. Go figure...LOL

Sorry Sir, I lost track of this thread for a bit, I wasn't ignoring anyone. It was around $100. Good quality though, it's what you want on the floor to step on. Not some plactic piece of crap. Full Metal Body. Made in China of course, but what isn't. I used the 30ohm resistor too and avoided the jumper in the fuse box.

GMCDT could be taken as fightin words in some circle's.

Finally got my "its locked up" light installed this past week and moved my switch from the dash to the shifter for fingertip control

I'm still need to black out my home-made switch bracket...and get rid of the pink wire ties!

Nice!!!
Is it a momentary switch, or an on/off?
I was thinking about a momentary, so I couldn't forget that I was locked, but then thought about doing a normally on interupt switch that is tied to the brake petal and a push-on/push-off button tied to the shift lever similar to yours.
Good work.

Good work.
Its a on/off type switch...NOT momentary. Thats why I have the light to remind me its still locked when slowing down.
Since the TC locks up after 50 mph anyway, I usually find myself turning off the switch after reaching that speed so that I don't have to think about it anymore.

But I'm on so many 40 to 50 mph roads during my daily driving that I couldn't imagine not having the switch...I hate that slipping/heating/fuel sucking transmission, that come with these trucks......
The switch is the only cheap solution

Another TC Lock Question

Lot's of great info on TC Lock switch in these posts, thanks.

two questions;

For my 2002 - 47re, and my brothers 2003 - 48re, do we need the 33 ohm resister, or not (instead of the relay jumper)? I've read the entire string here and do not see a clear answer?

Second for a light showing "TC Lock On" why not just use a DPST switch instead of a SPST? Then you can hook up the light to the the second set of pins to ground and 12volts. No diode required.

Ops, my third bonus question is; On several posts I read "the TC lock also helps for braking on steep downgrades if you have an exhaust brake". Wouldn't this option help in "loaded braking" with or without an exhaust brake.
My manual says that when going downhill the TC will be unlocked to improve gas milage unless the accelerator is depressed.

Here is another great use for this option; this summer in the NC western mountains I was going up a 7 mile steep dirt road in the Smokey mountains. Because of all the "switchbacks" my speed was around 20-30 mph. Unloaded the tranny temps got up to 210-215 (much higher than normal) because the tranny could not lock the TC was generating lots of heat. I could not believe an unloaded truck, going 25mph on a cool day could heat the tranny to that level.

lighted switch?

i'm sure someone has covered this or thought of this already and i've missed it but instead of running an led light for an indicator could you just use a switch with a led light built in? or will this hurt something?

Don't want to hijack or get off subject but I was wondering what ever happened to John Rodrigez, the guy that started this thread. Some of his posts used to crack me up.

Hello, for pre 2004.5, you need the jumper, not the resistor. I have an early 2004 and I did have to put in the jumper, which was easy.

Lightbulb

Well I guess this is a good thread for my first post here.

I like the idea of this mod and am looking at doing it my self. I have seen several good ideas as far as indicator lights and momentary switches and such.

I believe after all the input I have seen I have figured out the way I am going to install mine. I plan on using a simple lighted rocker switch with the resistor. How ever I am also going to imploy the momentary foot switch and an aditional LED with diod.

Now if I can explain it so that it makes sense out side of my head instead of just inside it. Install the tap w/resistor to the diod/ green LED to the momentary foot switch mounted on the floor board. Then from the M/switch to the lighted rocker and from the rocker switch to ground. Of course the +12 to the lighted rocker.

In my head it would work like this. turn on the rocker switch to engage. This will light the rocker switch. Then in slowing or even stoping you can hit the M/ switch to unlock lighting the green LED indicator. This leaves me both hands and no fumbling around to turn the switch off.

Not sure if that makes any sense to any one else but sounded good in my head.

I believe for me a momentary only switch would be ideal. I have had this mod on my 98 12v auto and loved it. BUT YOU WILL FORGET to turn it off a couple of times and let me tell you....it's bad on the tranny!

My idea is this. Do you know when that TC locks late? Trying to accend a hill and having to let off the accelerator to trick the cpu into THEN applying the TQ lock. Well, I believe that a momentary lock signal DEFINETLY applies a lock. But, experience showed that if you didn't mash the accelerator, the TQ stays locked. What you achieve is a "earlier lock". For me that's really all I would ever need.

Question HELP ME, with 2003 TC lock switch

This forum is great and my 2002 TC lock-up switch is working GREAT!

My brother just bought an early 2003 Ram2500 with the 47RE tranny. My help question is how do we install the Switch on the 2003???? I have read all the posts and some say use the 33ohm resister and you don't need the relay jumper, others say you need the resister and the relay mod. Whats the correct answer?
If we need the relay mod, where is it located ( in detail )??

I did mine with a momentary switch and am going to fabricate a pistol grip type assembly for the switch. I have not seen any impact when going down a steep grade in a lower gear and applying the switch, it seams like the tranny locks by itself???

Thanks for any help, this is a great mod if used with TLC.

OD lock out on 05

Hi. I'm planning on putting a momentary switch on the floor for tc lockup.
My question is, is it possible to wire up a OD lockout switch like on 2nd gens?
I'd like to be able to keep my trans out of OD sometimes when towing, and also be able to force the trans into 3rd once I install an exhaust brake.

Thanks
Ben
