CR Fuel Pressure
SORRY!!!!
NO NO NO,
I think my post was taken the wrong way.
John_P,
I was referring to your post but not the information in it, or at you or your son directly. That information is what I was looking for in the first place.
What I could care less about is that if my friend blows up his truck, or fries some component. I have warned him of the consequences (that he should already know, since he has destroyed one Cummins already).
Jack,
Sorry my post was taken the wrong way, I should have clarified myself. Also, No disrespect was willingly aimed at John_P or any other member. That is the reason I am on this site, to learn from the wisdom of others. However, being a young pup myself, sometimes a comment that sounds okay to me can sound different to someone else. Which is the situation that has occurred here, and I am sorry for it.
Once again I am sorry if I have offended anyone,
My Sincere Apologies,
Chris

PLEASE, OH PLEASE LET ME COME BACK, I HAVEN'T EVEN HIT 400 HP YET!
Sorry, Guys

scrappy's got it right. There is no comparison to non-common rail systems.
The "rail" is the long steel manifold that simply distrubutes the already pressurized fuel to the injectors.
Yes you have as high a 23,500 psi coming directly out of the CP3 High Pressure pump. It's really not even an injection pump but simply a rotary piston pump supplying pressure to the rail. The injector must then control this high pressure with solenoids and computer.
The CP3 pump needs no pressure and can actually "suck" fuel from the tank if the lines and supply tank are designed to allow it. The Duramax works with suction, same CP3 pump and NO lift pump. It has larger fuel lines from the tank though.

In case noone knows the CP-3 has a small pump built into the rear of it. I have one here and I am currently measuring the flow from it at different speeds. At least its not a total wimp.
Yes, the CP-3 is a positive displacement pump.

Man, who would have thought that after a littler misunderstanding, and the thread almost gets closed, people chime in a give the best info yet.
Thanks for letting me make a
of myself first.
Great info guys, keep it coming, and someday I might actually understand this stuff.
