CR Fuel Pressure
CR Fuel Pressure
Hey you 3 Gen owners,
Being properly valved and computer free, and having way too much free time on my hands, I've been thinking about the fuel pressure on that very expensive rail thing you guys have for an injection system. It has to be more sensitive to low pressures than my P7100 or even those pesky VP-44's.
So what is the limiting factor in fuel pressure? I haven't seen or heard anything about this, so is it not a problem at all?
JUST FOR CONVERSATION,
a friend of mine got his TST on his 04 305/555 this week and, will that thing Smoke. I don't know if it has any power but the way it smokes that thing should roll. He also said that he is hitting 35-40 lbs of boost at (GET READY!!!!) 1800 deg PRE-TURBO
. (I mounted the probe for him at the #3 cyinder)
Now I don't think that he is possibly hitting 1800 degrees, but with this moron, he will very frequently with no regard to the engine. He plans to make it a puller, cojmplete with NOS, TWINS and a ton of STUPID. This guy swapped an H2E onto his 01' and kinked the oil supply hose to the turbo... Toasted a CUMMINS in 13,777 miles. Our local dealer covered it under warranty blaming a bad oil filter (which was a Fleetguard Stratopore) clogging the piston oilers.
These are the people that give us diesel nuts a bad name
.
Anyway, what are your thoughts on this fuel pressure question, and feel free to comment on my "friend".
Chris
BTW, this guy is only 17 years old, and I have no idea where his money comes from, but I wish I had it.

I love people like that.
If I'm correct, all the CP3 pump needs to see is positive pressure. So anything above 0. Now, with that said, I'd go ahead and have him put a Holley Red inline with his stock lift pump. That should keep the pressures up around 20 or so and he should be perfectly fine. Your friend won't be hitting that kind of temp long. I don't know what will give out first. Tranny or engines. I don't doubt that he is hitting that cause the 3rd gens run hotter than the 2nd gens did.

he pretty much hit the nail on the head there. The way common rail works, we have a pump that runs fuel up to the cyl head, and into the injectors, and then injector itself is like the vp44s, and actually produces the injection PSI, The ecm controls a tappet valve thats on tghe injector and that lets fuel in and shuts it off, which is how you can control the number of injections per power stroke. Now, this is how the common rail works on the larger engines like the isx series 60 and so on, Ive got no personal experience with the newer cummins in the dodge but im possitive that it would work in much the same eway
A new twist in the Saga of the Moron, this weekend He CUT HOLES IN THE BED OF A $45,000 TRUCK TO PUT STACKS ON A GOOD-LOOKING TRUCK.
I like the look of stacks as well as the next redneck, but there comes a point where you must ask yourself, "Self, why are you such a [profanity removed by admin] That truck is not even 10% mine yet!"
Maybe I'm just weird when it comes to thinking like that???

My son just recently purchased a 2004 Dodge CTD CR. Bone
stock, the truck had about seven (7) pounds of fuel pressure
and would pull down to about four at WOT. After he installed
the Edge EZ he could then get that fuel pressure down to
"0" without too much problem. We installed a Holley Blue
Pump with -6 line from the the tank all the way up to the
CP-3 pump. He now has 22-23lbs. at idle and never gets
below 14lbs. which should be good. As "BigBlue" said,
apparently any "positive" pressure is O.K. with these
CR engines. But,.....if that guy has a TST PM3 I know he
is at "0" pressure and that can't be good for the CP-3
pump!
Just my .02 cents worth!

Personally I could care less!
I would love too see him roast his engine, or his fuel system at least. The way he is spending money, he must have plenty of reserve.
Me on the other hand, I'm just tooling along in my 95 trying to buy a clutch, injectors, turbo, and a US Gear OD, all while going to College and driving the truck everyday. It not easy bombing these rigs while your broke.
Chris
When I got this truck people at high school said that I got it to be cool, and that I could never use a truck like that. Now I pull 20,000+ lb loads about once a month and plenty of 10,000+ lb loads. This guy has a lawn care business and pulls 3 lawn mowers on a 20' Bumper Pull trailer. I pulled bigger loads than he has seen with my old 93 1500 Chevy.
Oh man when I get started on something I just ramble on.

Oh Yeah,
I trapshoot too, and for anyone who has never done this, it is expensive too, if you don't win!!!
Guess What, If not winning is good, Then I'm the supreme Champion

I feel your pain on the being broke and trying to bomb while in college. I've been unemployed since like august and it looks like I just might finally get a job. Problem is I have other things to buy first before I can bomb the truck. When does it end.
fuel psi
the lift pump pushes the fuel to the cp3 where it is compressed to around 23 THOUSAND psi! the injectors just control timing and duration of delivery electronically. I feel your pain about being Broke, Been there done that. but he is paying for it he can do what he wants with it. I think he is dumb to abuse the truck like he does but what can you expect when Daddy pays for it all he has no respect until HE has to pay the bills. I put stacks on mine within a month of owning it and I don't see it as tearing it up(i only made ONE payment on my 45 Thousand dollar truck when I did it.

Was your statement; "Personally I could care less" directed
at me?"
If so, you obviously took my post the wrong way
sir! I was merely trying to add to what you had posted
earlier about fuel pressures with the CR Engines and
thought the other DTR members may benefit by the
posted pressures as a "comparison." As far as the
remark "I would love to see him roast his engine or
his fuel system at least." If THAT is directed at my
son, maybe you need to go find another diesel website
to cause trouble on!!
