Clutch

So here's the story. I bought my truck about 25k miles ago, bone stock. I haven't towed anything with it to amount to much. Put Quad 65 hp box in it about 3k miles ago and yesterday on my way home I slipped the clutch in 5th and 6th when the turbo spooled hard. I'm pretty bummed that my clutch is going @ only 65k miles.

I'm gonna take out the box later today and see if it still slips. If not I guess I'll run it w/o the box.... or just learn to keep my foot out of it. I'll be putting my stock 265's back on for winter, so that will help some too. I just can't believe the stock clutch isn't holding up. I have not been doing any burn outs or boosted launches. Just normal driving... maybe messing w/ a few ricers here and there.

I don't suppose Dodge will warranty the clutch, will they? I really don't have the funds for a South Bend right now... although I did see the one in the classifieds.

Any suggestions?

You're out of luck for Dodge warranting the clutch. If you can't afford the South Bend a cheaper solution is Valair. Their NV5600 clutches seems to be good.

Yep, even on new trucks they only warranty the clutches for 1 year or 12K miles... If you slipped it with a box, bigger tires, etc. then returning to normal will help. If you don't tow, and take it easy, and return to stock you will most likely last for a while, if you keep your foot out of it. But a good replacement is the SBC, but I understand they are pricey. I haven't looked but I think Luk makes some for the NV 5600 as well...

dont feel bad Smarty is causing my clutch to slip on the 90hp setting and my truck only has 13k on it but I drove the 170hp for a few days so that might be why

Thanks guys. I'm just gonna try to baby it and see if it'll last until spring. I do remember there being a little oil on the outside of my clutch housing the last time I changed the engine oil. I may take a closer look. If the clutch somehow got oil on it from a bad seal that would cause it slip.

Mine is just now starting to barely slip in 6th gear when you floor it without being spooled up and then all of a sudden it spools and then it slips. But that is with the wild torque management aftermarket turbo program. With the standard sw9 it wouldn't slip at all even with my 35's. But it ain't lookin too good for my stock clutch here pretty soon because bob is sending me the 4.4 beta as we speak!

Call up South Bend and see if we can get a 2 for 1 special!

I would prolly get a south bend but I have a haisley street drag dual disk that im gettin a really good deal on waiting to get installed when my stocker finally gives up. I'll see how I like it first and see how it holds up. My buddy had one on his 05 with the crazy larry/tst/mp8 stacked and that clutch didn't hold up to that so he sent it back and they sent him back a new one so thats the one that i will be getting. He said it shifted just as fast I could possibly shift it, so im all for that. We'll see...

hmm thats weird I talked to Haisley this morning and they told me the HMR street drag was good for 1000-1200hp I told him about your post and he asked how old the clutch was???? apparently they has revised the clutch about a year ago he said the older version may have slipped but he would be surprised if the new style did....has your buddy dynoed his 05??? I would like to hear his numbers if so.

See, the way I took it the first clutch he had(the one that he slipped) was a defective clutch. Thats why they sent him a replacement. His truck is back to stock now as he is trying to sell it, so the new one is sitting in a box in his office. No, his truck was by no means a super HP truck. He said it was a bad clutch, thats why it slipped. But when mine goes, I will prolly be using the his new one.
