Clunk Noise on Cold Startup

I've got a clunk type noise that happens on cold startup that has gotten a little louder lately, and I was curious if this is a normal clutch noise. It almost sounds like a big spring releasing about a second or two after startup. I only notice this on startup and my clutch seems to be operating normally.

Thanks for your thoughts

Thanks for the thougt,

I would doubt it is the grid heaters tho, it is a fairly loud clunk from the transmission area of the truck kind of like a large spring releasing not a relay clicking noise. I really feel like the clutch is partially engauged and then releases, hard to explain I guess.

Mine also did a clunk the other day I think it was the AC compressor , I wiil shut AC off from now on when I shut truck down and see if it happens again. It is a good habit to shut down all electric items before engine shut down any how but I have got away from doing it , guess it is time to start again.

Humm...maybe it is my old Ford

I think I have heard the AC clunk before, but I doubt this is it. This is much louder then the AC clunk I have heard, and really seems to be coming from the transmission bellhousing. I'm starting to feel like this is not a "normal" sound.

Sounds like your A/C compressor to me. If so, it's completely normal.

I guess it could be my A/C compressor, I will try and pinpoint the sound when I start it up tonight. If it is the A/C compressor it is awful loud, but I have heard that is normal, just did not realize it was this loud.

My A/C clunk is getting noticeably louder as I get more miles on it, clunks the loudest after the truck sits overnight. If you have the defrost, A/C on in the morning it will do it loudly a few seconds after startup.... The sound projects throughout the truck, that's the bad thing about these new frames.
