Hello all, we just bought a 04.5 4 door, long box 6 spd. Its my 5th CTD, the newest one before this a 95 I am pretty well informed with the 12 valves, but don't really know alot about the common rail engines. My 95 , with bombs, will walk all over the 04. this just won't do! what is a good programmer/ chip that would give the 04 a bit more jam?-probably 50- 100 horse. thanks in advance, 3rd gen newbie.

 

Well, welcome to the 04.5 club...

I had an edge on mine before, it was pretty good, I have a smarty now, and the power is a lot better. You say that you don't want to make any more than 100 extra horses, so if you go smarty route, you could get a Smarty Jr.

There are a lot of options out there... I have used the edge and Smart SR, I liked them both.

You might want to look into an aftermarket lift pump, especially if is still has the canister mounted LP, these are known to fail. Jam a FP and EGT gauge on there at the least.

thanks madhat, I am looking for just plug in power for the time being, with the essential guages of course. how many horse wil the stock inj and turbo sustain?

 

I got up to 530-ish on mine, but that was with the tranny and a walbro fuel pump.
