CFM+ on stock truck...dyno'd
CFM+ on stock truck...dyno'd
For those that are interested.
I just installed this intake horn and wanted to share my findings. Like a lot of folks on this and other sites,I have been following developments on the various intakes.
I chose the CFM because it seemed to be the closest to my idea of how an intake should be designed. The fact that it does not have any advertising molded in to it put it over the top of AFE and ATS on my list
With that said, lets get to the good part.
My truck is about as stock as you will find (on here).
ONLY mods are AEM workhorse dry intake, muffler delete, and pyro gauge.
NO boxes,chips,foolers,injectors,etc.
Heater Grid remains installed.
I took the truck in for a BEFORE run on the dyno on friday.
I installed the CFM on saturday and will take the truck back for an AFTER run on monday.
They only measured HP and TQ at the wheels(no tach hookup)
4 runs were made. Two were 4th gear only and two were rowing the gears.
The second run was a little better than the first and the two shifting runs were inconclusive due to the shifts.
Here are some pics for your enjoyment...

someone clear this up for me. he says it is stock but am i reading 1300 lbft of torque on that chart? the HP seems correct with a stock truck but the torque is a bit high. nice write up so far. keep up the good work
I do not think you can get a direct torque read out with out a rpm pick up. When I dynoed mine with the AFE intake it was done in 2nd (48re)with a 15k load applied to try to approximate towing with a heavy trailer.

I'm not sure why 4th gear. I was just letting the dyno guy do his job.It seemed that while he was letting it all warm up, he was trying all the different gears to see which one felt like it pulled the hardest.
As far as the torque #s, I was shocked myself.
The tech said that it was at the rear wheels after being multiplied through the trans, rear gears and 285/70-17 tires.
As long as we do the after test the same way, it still should give us the data we want. Isolating the gains on nearly stock truck

If you look it is a Mustang dyno which is a load dyno and the numbers would be right with it running in 4th gear the trans increases the tq to the rear wheels and the tq is figured from the load of the dyno. the mustang dyno does not use a RPM pick up.
well we know the truck isnt making 1300 lbs. of tq so to me it doesnt matter how the dyno came up w/ those #'s because its still incorrect.
Hello,
That is 2 HP graphs. The curve does not even come close to matching TQ shape.
Dyno operator does not know his stuff. Going thru gears to find which one pulls the best idea is silly. Proper information is from a 1:1 run.
