carli ball joints too small now what?
carli ball joints too small now what?
Ok, made the moog mistake, then installed the xrf non greasable ball joints and 25k later uppers are shot. Said to myself, that's it! ponyed up the 800, and bought Carlis, uppers pressed in nice, went to install the lowers and they slid in by hand! there's even play on one side! did the XRF's really enlarge the bore? I haven't measured the carlis yet but it seems one is slightly larger than the other since one is slighty looser no matter which side I slip it into.
regardless, Now what? Am I forced to use xrf lowers again? I have knurling tools but doubt the cup for the lowers could be knurled if they are hardened.
Truck is down, and is my life line,,,
Thanks in advance for any ideas...

I have read that Dynatrac Manufactures a ball joint that takes care of the over sized / stretched bore. Look up a dealer and ask about this. The other option is to go back and replace them with the XRF's.
Thanks for the response Doc,
I looked on their site its and looks like they may make a knurled body, I'll call George at 8lugg, where I bought the carlis and see if he can get them, and weather or not he'll give me some credit on the carli's.

George can get those for you. He can special order the Dynatracs with a knurled surface to solve the over boring issues left by other manufacturer's ball joints. They have issued a data sheet which addresses this problem.
Dynatrac, Carli, and the OEM supplier spec and manufacture their joints to fit the factory spec bore opening. Many others do not.

I did get them from George, and he suggested exactly that, however since dynatrac makes a knuraled lower for this exact situation I decided to go with that option. I think peening the bore would have worked, just not sure for how long? and I really don't want to do this anymore.
If I had a nickel for every ball joint I put in my truck I'd have sixty cents!!

Why don't you try some of that Loctite sleeve retainer that is good for large gaps. I use that stuff in my repair shop for things that can't be machined and for bearings that won't stay locked. Good Luck.
Duster,
If I was to do the peening, I would have used that in conjuction and it probably would have worked. Made my decision and the knuraled Dynatrac's r on the way. I'm hoping it was the correct decision.

I have read ONLY good things about the DynaTrac balljoints on different forums. It's actually pretty cool that they manufacture a knurled set that will work in a truck that has already had some sort of oversized bj installed. Of course, there is nothing wrong with Carlis either.
