Can an injector hang open SLIGHTLY???

Just wondering. Have a slight ticking at idle that seems to be a bit louder than a few weeks ago. I was out of country and didn't drive truck for about 12 days. Truck runs strong. But my rail pressure has always been slightly lower than most other trucks.
What does a sticking injector actually do?
Meaning if it isn't hanging open completely?
Is this even possible?
If this isn't the case, what causes the louder tick I'm hearing?

I'd take it in and look at it. I had almost the same problem your are describing for about 6 months and didn't think anything about it and then bam it finally went out and took the number 4 cyclinder out with alot of other stuff.

Put it on the drb and check each cylinder one by one. Good luck man been their done that. I sure wish johan would show some interest in what i told mike the other day they think it is b/c of the timing and duration.

drb is a dodge scan tool you can check by removong valve cover and lossening bolts on top of injects .start truck and remove and replace one wire on each inject until the tick goes away.then pull that inject and send it off to get it checked out...you may want to run a compression test as well

Would I be able to narrow it down quicker by disconnecting an injector harness (controlling two injectors at a time), then at least I'll know if it's 1,2 or 3,4 or 5,6?

Quickest and easiest way is a drb scanner simply plugs into the obd port and allows you to kill one injector at a time. The truck should shake a little when you kill the cylinder as it is running on only 5 at that time the one injector that doesnt change the way the truck is idleing is the problem. This way you dont have to get your hands dirty. Gotta love a common rail lets see you do that with a 12valve or isb motor. Usually any local repair shop with a scanner can do it a buddy of our has a snap on scanner and he can check them for us from time to time, this can save you a trip to the dealer only takes 5 minutes or so so dont let them try and tell you that you need an appointment.

The injectors on a 3rd gen don't "pop" off. They are electronically activated. The computer or wiring would have to be at fault for that to happen, and the check engine light would be on or a code would be set as they are monitored quite closely.
