Local shop just did a rebuild on an 06´ with clogged oil nozzle on #1 from FRAM filter. Also, some other oil filters like the K & N may not have an anti-flowback prevention valve, which i beleive lets oil flow back through filter after shutdown so its like dry starting the engine everytime. Also heard the cheap Mopar marked filters from Wally World have caused problems. Stratopore or Baldwin Filters only for me.

Regarding the Bypass Filter, the above mention amsoil bypass filter is easy to install, just tatp into top of stock filter mount and run the return to oil fll cap with their kit. Also makes sampling oil for anaysis easy, just collect it as it comes out of the bypass return line.

I looked at the amsoil bypass filter. It looks good, and the price is right, but there is appeal to the setup that I saw on ebay because with that you get to relocate your full flow filter AND add a bypass filter all at once. I really don't like the OEM position for the full flow filter.

Do most of these kits use an adaptor where the stock filter goes? It would give me lot more room with my twins if they did?

Amsoil makes one of those as well... but they are not recommenced for the CR motors; it takes too long for oil pressure to build when you relocate the full flow.

You don't need a sandwich adapter, or I didn't, on top of the oil filter mount are 2 plugs.(Cummins probably put them there for bypass? you can monitor oil temp on one and I used the second one to go to my Frantz. I have an Amsoil ByPass on another truck, but filters are expensive. I really like the Frantz I installed, about ? $180 total. They also filter Submicronic. They are not for everyone, as you probably need to change the TP element every 2000 to 3000 miles. TP is pretty cheap. No, they won't come apart either, they have been around since 50's I think. If you want to read more about bypass filters and maybe get some ideas, check out bobistheoilguy.com & in forums there is a section dedicated to bypass filters. A lot of members there own a Dodge CTD. Good Luck

Just my opinion, but I purchased the kit that you are looking at on ebay for the ford SD that I put a cummins in for the same reason you are talking about. The kit was fine for the full flow but as for the bypass it is no good. I used amsoil filters on it and the bypass side has no restriction in it so it simply acted as a full flow because there is no metering device in it to slow down the flow. The amsoil kits have a pressure regulator in them so that the flow is less and the pressure does not tear the filter element inside the filter canister, then it does not do anything for your filtering and can put more trash in your oil than it takes out. JMO but if you decide to buy one go with a brand name like amsoil or any other reputable company. Hope this helps.

BINGO.... and the stock filter location isn't bad at all. Why risk moving it to a location where it would be more vulnerable?
My setup is with Amsoil's bypass just like ah64id cept I put mine on the driver side of the engine.
I ran an Oilguard setup in same location as his pics.

I also ran a motorguard under the air filter.

At one time I had the Oilguard feeding into the Motorguard.

I'm excessive like that.

If you want to go with the amsoil set up,buy the parts seperatly.
$25-30 for filter head for single bypass
$40-50 for hoses,from summit ,jegs or local hose place{steel braided}
$20 for fittings, from amsoil, jegs summit or local hose place
$30-35 for bypass filter from amsoil
just need to make bracket and a few bolts, cost so far $115-135.give or take a few bucks.you could do it for under $200 with the billet oil cap.kits are great but you end up with a bunch of extra hoses and fittings that you just wont need for your application.

Close, the filter head is $63.50 MSRP, and $50.70 preferred. I don't know of another filter head that works with the Amsoil thread/gasket pattern.

I did that.. got the head and filter from amsoil.. Got the hoses and fittings locally, at a discount price, and all in all it was a wash on the cost, but I wanted better hose fittings (thou not needed), plus I needed more hose than comes with the kit...

If you buy a $10 6 month preferred customer pricing setup with Amsoil the entire BMK-21 kit is $130.50.. Depending on where you mount it you may need more hose.

The Billit cap is $50.00 preferred pricing..

So if you get the $10 preferred the enitre setup is

BMK-21: $130.50
BK-1301: $50.00
EaBP 110: $34.10
Preferred: $10.00
Total: $224.60, plus tax and shipping.
