Bully Dog RFI vs. AFE Stage 2
Getting ready to buy an intake for my 07 CTD.Which one of these would work best for me?I would prefer a dry filter.Definitely want to be able to hear the turbo spooling.Any suggestions?
Look into S&B great product and a great price. Thats if you are really set on an intake. You could always just buy a good drop in filter (not K&N), and enlarge the hole on the factory air box. That provides a alot of air actually. And if you want whistle, pull the silencing ring in the compressor housing.
I've got the AFE Stage 2 w/Pro-GUARD 7 filter and couldn't be happier. It's an oiled filter and I haven't had any problems at all. The system definately improved the sound of the turbo. It's louder than stock, but not so loud that it becomes annoying. Performance wise, the turbo spools up quicker and there seems to be a slight improvement in power. Overall, I would recommend it.
I had an AFE Stage I, and later a Stage II, both with PG7 filters.
50k miles of oil samples told me that the PG7 filters work well. Silicon ppm was usually around 5 or so...
The sound is good, but more importantly the filter works!
I only believe opinions that are backed up with data. Do some research and see what results others have had with competing filters.

AFE with tube = Stage II
FWIW, the AFE tube is a much smoother, laminar-flowing connection than a gutted factory tube. How much it helps with real world data, I do not know.
AFE Stage I is a 4" filter. It can be purchased with a Torque Tube.
The Stage II is a 6" filter. Much more flow...
I have a AEM workhorse intake with the dry filter was on my truck for about 4,000 miles and I am getting a new truck this week so If you want a AEM let me know, I thought it worked great and sounded good.
