Brute force intake experment

I have a brute force intake and it kept pulling the filter minder down when ever I would go full throttle. I call to AEM and they told me that it is being pulled down because of the increased air flow down the intake...

Wondering if it was a line.... or the truth today I pulled the air filter and took it on a wide open run to see if they were right or the filter was to restrictive...

GOOD NEWS... without an air filter it still sucked the filter minder all the way down and the EGT's stayed exactly the same (1150 or so) with or without the filter..

So I guess they were right and it is just flowing more air and causing a vacuum on the filter minder not a restrictive filter....

BTW the turbo really sings with this even with the Silencer ring still in!!!

You don't prove anything without an alternate filter. And don't run too long without one.

Just went 2 blocks without the filter.. It was only to comfirm if the filter was restrictive and pulling down the filter minder... Filter is back on...

I have the same problem and always assumed it sucked down cuz it was moved to the intake tube from the airbox and there was a stronger vacuum because of more air gouing through the smaller area. I can definately tell this intake flows better than stock so I just ignore the minder. If the minder allows you to check filter condition without removing the stock airbox cover and pulling out the filter - having the minder is pretty pointless when you open the hood with the AEM and the filter is staring you in the face and is plain to see if its dirty Another test that could be tried is to reinstall the stock intake, remove the minder and cover the hole. Then drill a hole in the stock intake tube near where the minder is located on the AEM tube and install the minder. I'd be willing to bet that even with a clean stock filter it would pull down farther just by changing the location

Mine does the same exact thing i was going to do the same exact thing gerry did but i guess i dont have to now. Just like bighorn said the minder is meant for the stock intake not an after market intake. Mine really gets sucked in quick with my II phat shaft 64

I wouldn't worry about the filter minder. My minder on my Banks never moved in 8 months of me using it. When I cleaned it. A lot of dirt came off it. The minder should of moved at least half way. Just clean your filter ever other oil change and you will be good. Unless you go off road then you should clean after every trip in the dirt and mud.

I will say I had the same problem. The filter minder sucking all the way down with the Brute Force Intake. I always thought the filter might be to small to flow enough air. So, when AEM came out with the Workhorse HD, I switched to it. The filter minder never moves now. But, with your test, I guess I was wrong to start with. I didn't think about an increase in vaccum. I do know for a fact the Brute Force flows more air than stock though.

i believe the action of it being forced down is related to the force of the suction and called the venturi principle.

I have a brute force intake and it kept pulling the filter minder down. If AEM knows it keep pulling the filter minder down and knows it's because they drilled the hole in the wrong place. I'm wondering WHY AEM keeps making them like that?
