broken trasmission shafts?

I looking to upgrade my tranny to a ATS or GB but a full billet is out of my price range right now. my question is if I get one with just the billet input shaft will it take 600hp. If i brake an output shaft its really not a big deal, but i was really wanting to know if anyone has broken an inner shaft and if so at what hp level.

I have the diablo stack, full fuel system, intake exhaust, htt sled puller 66 and soon to have studs, injectors and bigger cp3

I broke the Input shaft at about 450hp towing a 10,000# load up a grade and the intermediate somewhere between 650 and 900 hp at 70+psi of boost somewhere around 70mph empty and accelerating over rough pavement.

I wouldnt worry about breaking a billet input shaft at the power level you are at right now

Won't break a billet input now?

Many have made almost 600hp with this setup..... but he definitely will when....
and soon to have studs, injectors and bigger cp3
People have broken the input on power barely over stock. Bad advice
When I took out the intermediate I rebuilt the tranny fully again...The break was clean so the damage was minimal from it....the direct clutches were wornout, the sun gear was wornout. I replaced all the clutches and seals, sungear and it held the twins running at 75psi all the time until the piston rings gave out. Tranny is holding the virtually stock power just fine. ks

Cquestad, What kind of abuse do you put your tranny through? Any boosted launches?

I am looking to go about 500-550hp range and just want to do TC/VB and input shaft. Do you have any advice how I can get into this HP range and have a little fun with out destroying my transmission?

Thanks, Tom J.

Lots of boosted launches...almost daily! "Normally" I think the OEM shaft will take that kind of power. The impact from TC locks with a race VB...and my driving style accellerated the failure.

I do really think the OEM had a defect...the way it broke...BUT,

Do you know if yours does?

When my stock trans went out I was at full throttle bouncing and shaking up a muddy lease road. The dealer thought the shaft broke till they got it apart. Everything was just seized up. They couldnt believe the shaft didnt break.
