BOV on a Diesel
I'm tired of my SP66 barking like crazy when I let off of it, and I'm honestly worried about the long term effects of it. A blow off valve would be the ideal solution, but making it work on a diesel would be another story. Since a diesel is unthrottled and has very little vacuum it would be quite a task to fabricate. Does anybody have any ideas on this? Discuss...
i have drawn up plans using a vacuum pump, solenoides and switches, but that gets complicated, and if something sticks, leaving the BOV open, kiss your turbo goodbye as you will overspeed it real quick. i also have drawn up plans to use a large solenoid valve [1" or 1.25" npt] as a bov, but again, if something fails and it sticks open, turbo overspeed. a high temprature capable check valve between the intake and the exhaust manifold would work if your drive pressure is higher than your boost pressure [or if you used a biased check valve???]. i don't really need one yet as my turbo don't bark too often, but it sure does sound cool [just today i drooled over a nissan 240sx turbo with a very loud BOV]
Do you remember the post about "Tasha'a Evil Twins"? I think it was Gunracer(?) that said the blow-off valve he had on that rig was coming off because it just never worked right. Something about it couldn't hold the pressure and it was the biggest one he could find.
I know BD-Power makes a blow-off valve for our trucks that is electronically controlled. No experience with it personally, but sounds nifty: http://www.bd-power.com/ram/product....boGuard&tt=ram

yeah, you could, but it won't function like it is suppose to. it would work as a simple poppit relief valve, which you can get from many places for much less... when functioning as a blow off valve, or bypass valve, you need a signal to relief pressure in the intake tubing. on gassers, they use the intake manifold low pressure to open the bov and dump the boost pressure before the throttle butterfly. that won't work on a diesel.

Okay guys, I'm obviously not worried about my warranty if you'll read my sig. And since my turbo is FAR from being a stocker, I'm just trying to save my investment. It is much more complicated on a Diesel than just strapping on some ricer valve. I stated that in my first post. I'm not looking for some "cool" sound, I couldn't care less about that. I'm just trying to save my investment (turbo) from barking, but now it's too late...

The way we had it plumbed it would actualy open when your turbo(s) would surge. The turbo's would bark once before the BOV managed to open(delayed reaction because of location?)
Just our findings for you to digest...
