A lot of extra hp. An automatic will kill you off the line, and in a block to block even with way less mods. But when you get into the higher gears (5th and 6th) you will go by then

Boost launches are only possable on a 6-speed with a Dual Disk clutch like I posted in that other thread. Thats how slead pullers leave the line and some of the fastest 6-speed dragsters. If you got the power and technique down it can make your slow 6-speed into a pretty fast truck. Ive seen video's a a few 12 second 6 speeds and an old vid of a 2nd red on it the 10's. The only downside is the driving charistics of a DD clutch. They dont like to be speed shifted and are noisy and a basic PITA to drive every day.

Go trade it in on a new auto with 3.73's JK You can make a 6 speed fast, as banshee and a few others have proved it...

Seriously? I thought he was kidding. How would one go about this trick? And correct me if Im wrong, but wouldnt this melt the clutch pretty quickly.

High-boost launches aren't "great" for any vehicle, manual or auto, but it is the best, if not only, way to get the fastest times. It is hard on the clutch, but with a dual disc, they seem to be able to take that abuse all day long. You would simply plant the e-brake to the floor (it's MUCH easier when it's a hand brake!) and get your RPMs pretty high. You would then start to ease your clutch out and hold it at the point just before the parking brake can't hold anymore and then pull the parking brake release and OFF YOU GO!

I know I've read on this or TDR's Forum that the gearing for 6th gear is equal to that of OD in the auto,... in which case I don't see how a 6 spd is going on by the auto. Perhaps someone has those ratios to post.

The final ratio of the NV-5600 is .73, G-56 .79 and the 48re is .69. In theory the auto should run faster unless there is a governor keeping it from it. with the NV you have the best and worst of both worlds, with the rear ends the same the auto will have a higher top speed (see above disclaimer on the auto) and the G-56 will rabbit to it's top speed, which will be lower than the NV. The NV will be equal in 3rd through 5th gears with the G. The main advantage of the auto is you don't have to be an expert at driving that transmission. With 6 gears and an effective rpm band of 1500-1800 (droping to 1700 rpm (too low really) and going to 3200-3500) you need to be able to row those gears very quickly.
