Boost, conflicting reports
Boost, conflicting reports
Hi, I have an 06 5.9 2500 Mega Cab with S/B filter, Edge programmer, and a Monster Ram intake. I have done other things to the truck in the way of , larger trans sump, remote oil filter, etc. and I have changed all the fluids in the truck to Amsoil. All of this to gain MPH. When I installed the Banks Ram my boost went from 18-20 up to 40-42 towing up hill when I get into it. Normal acceleration I get 25-32 easy. I have talked to a lot of people and most say it can't be and some say it is normal for the 5.9 and others say it is to high and I could damage my turbo or blow a head gasket. Even Banks techs gave me 2 different opinions. Any Help.
I don't think he has a leak. He may of had a leak. I was asking if he was reading it off of the Edge or a boost gauge. The Edge uses the map sensor. Edge or the Map sensor may have went to poop.

That makes sense to me but I have seen on another truck after a install the darn gauge would not read until 15 psi then would read up to 40 psi. The truck was 2001 cummins with only a edge and nothing else. My buddy was jacked for those boost numbers but I doubted it. after looking I found 2 leaks. after a little fix the gauge started working fine. Why it threw it out like that is beyond me
It is very possible. The boost solenoid could be stuck closed. I would think you would get a code for overboost if that happened. Maybe not while running the Edge product. On 04.5 and up trucks the boost is controlled by the ECM via the boost solenoid. It is the big black cylinder shaped thing on the turbo compressor housing.
