Better gas mialge question
This is my first time on the board and I glanced over some of the threads to find ya'll knowing everything I may ever need. So I hope ya'll can help me out with this.
I am very satisfied with my 2003 cummins but I am looking for better gas milage. I am getting right at 18mpg weather I am dry or towing a house.
Does anyone know of an inexpensive way to achieve this?
I have an Airaid air filter in it already. Is there anything else that will help?
I am looking into getting the exhaust redone to put a 4" or 5" pipe on instead of the factory. Will one of these help? What about just putting a straight pipe through or instead of the factory muffler? I have seen this as an option and can get that done fairly inexpencively but I don't want it to sound louder without a gas milage increase.
I am not cheap by any means, especially on the one that I would be up a creek without a paddle without, but I can't afford to use my money for this when I have to eat. You know what I am saying?
Thanks for your time.

Yeah...18's quite good. You have to consider your truck weighs about 7,000lbs and has 555lbft of tq (not sure if you have the SO or HO). Everyone I know with a 7.3L Powerstroke is getting 14.5mpg at best. I think most of the 5.9's around here avg less than 18 (16-18 normal). I have heard that an Edge EZ on power setting 2 will deliver a couple MPG if you can keep your foot out of it. I'm sure results vary.

Without your signature filled in we don't know what you are running. But if it's a Cummins try running diesel fuel instead of "gas".
