fuel filter = better gas mileage???

This is probably a dumb question, but I was wondering how many mpg a bad fuel filter could effect mileage? Thanks for any replies.

Mike

Re:fuel filter = better gas mileage???

Before it stops up? Probable 2-3 mpg. As the filter stops up, the supply to the injector pump decreases making the pump work harder to pull fuel since the lift pump can't push it through as easy. If the injector pump is pulling hard, cavitation can occur causing a decrease in efficiency of the fueling system.

That could make sense for me than. I have not changed it since I got the truck, and I get about 17mpg at best on highway... I am hoping after changing filter it could be up around 20mpg

Change mine every spring also, tranny, diff, transfer, radiator fluid in addition. Get 21 to 23 MPG unloaded with the info below.

Piece of mind! 8)

98RamTough, Problem is now the winter blend fuel is being used. I'm down from 21.4 average to 19.8. It will go back up when winter is over and the weather starts warming up and winter blend fuel goes away.
