Better gas mileage with more power
Better gas mileage with more power
I currently have a 2001 Dodge CTD. I love the truck, but not the gas mileage. I am looking to get better gas mileage along with more power. I installed the super chip and was not happy. I have been looking at the "EDGE" box and have heard some good things about it. I was wondering what everyone else thought. Currently I am getting 13-15 mpg. I am open to any suggestions.
Pump up the tires to the max, run a good fuel additive for a couple of tanks, check the LP psi., change air filter, check for boost leaks, check for leaky for wastegate and quit hod rodding!!
Get gauges!!!

13-15 is good mileage, try that with a 3/4 ton gasser, more power means more fuel!
An Edge EZ and a light foot will get the best possible.

I get better mileage than that in stop and go traffic laying a thick, black cloud.... and I'm far from stock.
I have a 24 v cummins, 4x4, auto trans , 4.10 gear ratio with 56,000 miles , green flow thru air filter. I do not hot rod ! This truck is very well maintained before it needs it ! Any ideas ?
Auto & 410's are not helping. Also this time of year your stuck with blended winter diesel fuel .... which many say costs 1+ mpg. (I can't say for sure cause we don't have to deal with that down here).
Big difference between 13 and 15 mpg. If you can do the 15 now... i'd say it's about right. Stock, I was just over 16 mpg in the warmer weather.
Edge EZ or VA box should help. MAybe bigger tires to "stretch" gears?
Good luck (and welcome to the site).

I'm getting 15mpg with my 38's running stock 3.54 gears................them suckers are getting changed QUICK!!! But with 4.10's and an auto I'd think you were about normal around 15mpg, especially with this winter fuel. Mine dropped a lot from fall to winter because of the changes in fuel
