Best way to bump up that power!!

I have worked on Cummins 5.9 for about 6 or 7 years but always stock. I'm looking to finally build a overstock performance truck, looking to learn about the best ways to bump up extreme power and what products are bust or brilliant!!!! anything is helpful, thank you!

You need to be a little more specific on what you think extreme power is... it will help us point you in the right direction. What kind of power, too... dyno queen, strip or sled? What year?

And to add to madhats post, how much money you wanna spend? And are you planning on the truck to be streetable or strictly off road. While some extreme power #s are manageable on road, its not exactly recommended imo

Agreed ^^^

Some might think 600hp and 1000ft/lbs is extreme and others (like some on here) would just laugh at those numbers and call it child's play!!

Are you towing? Pulling? Racing?
Is it a daily driver?
What is your budget?

Sorry about the vague, I'm looking for about 700hp and the budget really doesn't matter, its going to be a driver, I don't need to be able to run any crazy fast times at the drag

Are you towing anything?

Gauges, a solid transmission, an upgraded lift pump and filtration,
air intake mods, exhaust upgrades.

Some ladder bars to control traction and reduce axle wrap.

Dual CP3s.

Twin/triple turbos.

Upgraded injectors

Cam

Headstuds

Programmer(s). If you're running an 04.5-06,(I think those are the years EFI does not work for cummins) Smarty is your best bet, with a TST or MP8. If EFI live is out, then that is the programmer you want.

From there... if you still want to burn some money, you can look at porting the head, milling the intake, bigger/coated pistons... the list can get nuts after that.

Where do you live? If money is not an option, let someone like Scheid Diesel or Jeff Garmon have it for a month or so...

I think that's a good start to this conversation... others may chime in.

I have had good success with my HTT, but there are many to choose from.

What year truck are we talking about? The 6.7 can run a much larger single turbo than the 5.9. (and still be streetable)

You can get EFI live for the 06!! You will just need to get things going as far as turbo, injectors, fuel etc and then get someone to build a tune for you to make it all work. You can hit 700hp easily.

Yeah... 700 isn't a big deal with EFI.

When you said big power, I thought you meant 1K on fuel.

My truck drives 500 daily, 630-650 on fuel, and almost 900 on spray... and I'm small potatoes.

Not talking crap to you, man, just saying that we have different perspectives. I would recommend going big in the beginning so you have room to grow...

The bold is sooo very true! It is easier and cheaper to go big right away and de tune it, than it is to start small and keep making changes.
