It could also be that the Hewett probe used on the Banks is different than the one I read about that was so slow. For two identical trucks to be 200 degrees off with the same fueling. it just makes you wonder about the probe, gauge, and elevation differences.

an IR temp gun: I don't think that is a useful measurement to expose a speed difference between two probes, or even a manifold location for that matter. good for sustained performance, though. In other words, to probes, one slow and the other fast, would measure the same with such a technique. and by the time the surface temperature of the manifold can be measured, any short term affect from exhaust gasses is long past.

We still don't know if driving conditions can explain the difference: we don't know if the acceleration runs were comperable, and we don't know if elevation was a factor. high elevation causes high EGTs.

TST uses the type I dont' like: short type K wire that puts the 2nd junction under the hood. it looks like a Hewett to me but I can't tell for sure. maybe the newer hewetts are ok. But if you have two probes that react the same and one is 6 inches closer to the cylinder...

Doug...with the velocity of the exhaust gasses...I doubt they cool much from the cylinder to the turbo. Are you saying that both my TST and Diprocal are slow Type K probes and that is why I am seeing a similar reaction?

If this is the case...I give up. Let it peak a little higher than I can tell. I think the Cummins can take it. Sustained is the real issue.

what shut down temp is normal when the truck has been for a minute or two after a normal drive? mine will never go below 400 even at idle.
