Those are pressure spikes....Or the wastegate modulating pressure.

no it meens the gauge is screwed. mine used to do it and then i replaced it an no more vibrating needle. the mechanical boost gauges are cheap u can do one every 6 months to a year and not break the bank. but if u go electric, it will never happen again.

go electric gauges they are a little more expensive but well worth it i don't have any air lines or fuel lines running into my cab. jegs carries the electric autometer gauges.

BS, I have had three Autometer mechanical boost gauges, they have all flutered since new, they read true immediate air psi and they have worked flawlessly till sold, it doesn't mean they're going bad. Compare a digital volt/ohm meter to an analog. Which one would you rather have to read spikes and fluctuations?

i got a mechanical boost now only because they were out of the electric boost. but i ordered one and have not been home to get it yet. but the electrics read spikes awsome from what i was told. This is because the electric reads boost constant and will also read spikes

i have to say TCR is correct the gauge is not bad. the reason it fludders is the fact that the guage is mechanical which means you run the pressure line into the gauge and the pressure pushes against a spring, with a spring rate to change the position of the needle the comparable number of degrees. the fludder is the fluxuation in the pressure. the electrical gauges elminate this with using an electrical pressure sensor and a stepper motor. the electical signal is broken down into many different groups. total voltage range may be 0 to 5 mv and that can be broken down into a 100 groups (or steps) this means that from 0 to .05 mV would be 0 psi, .051 to .10 mV would be 1 psi and so on and so on to 100 psi.

Well I am pretty sure mine is working very well. It does not flutter at any normal psi range and the TST readout parallels the readings up to the 40psi range. On the track when the SPS66 hits 55psi in a very few seconds and the TST/EZ/Smarty stack keep the fueling level with the tc locked from shift to 2nd gear shift to the end of the quarter, the wastegate does come into play I guarantee IT! It does flutter at the 55psi mark.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying all mechanicals flutter, but my three diff ones, one on a gasser(supercharged), did flutter at one time or another, mostly in their peak ranges under certain conditions. I will still by them again and again.

I know, I know. It was just sort of amazing the first time I saw it happen and figured out why . I still prefer mechanical gauges most of the time, just shows my age .
