Autometer boost gauge... sticky?
Autometer boost gauge... sticky?
My autometer in my truck is weird. It's a brand new ultra light gauge. Anyway, it seems like the gauge is sticky for the first few mins when I drive it, meaning it won't work at all! Seems like flicking the gauge will "unstick" it. My boost gauge is hooked up right near the intake and I'm pretty sure all the tubing is good. Anything I can check or do I have a faulty gauge?
And the guys with the faulty autometer pyros. Did you ever end up getting the older parts that actually worked
? I am tempted to buy an older pyro if I can find one and when autometer gets this fixed, see if they will take it back or whatever. This is my first time with autometer stuff. I only have the pyro and boost hooked up and so far both have problems

my first z-series did the stick thing, i was going to call, but it just stopped doing it, can't remember how long it was in the truck, but i usually call on things pretty quick. as far as the pyro, but gauge arrived there on wed and they shipped the stuff back to me on the truck today... i hope it gets here tomorrow, but it may be sat. i will tell you what they sent, i am hoping for a brand new in the box older style gague, but we will see. i've got 2- boost, 2 tachs, oil pressure, tranny temp, water temp and the 2 pyro. the only problems were the boost sticking but it cured itself, and the pyro which autometer seems to be handling well. as long as they back it up with customer service, they can't help that thier supplier decided to stop making the probe. i guess they could have done a little more research before putting the new one on the market.. oh well i am happy with them sorry you are having troubles.
Just drove the truck again tonight and yup, it sticks. This time I flicked the gauge and it went straight up to 5 PSI of boost. Seems like just the needle is sticking. I'll call them tomorrow. I am glad that they are trying to fix the pyro problem, but on the other hand I don't want to wait another month to get it fixed. Call me inpatient, but if I buy a $125 pyro, I want it to work right and if it does have problems, have it fixed FAST.
I still have a trans temp that I haven't hooked up yet. I sure hope I have better luck with that one than these 2

Yeah, it's defective and they should take care of it for you. I had the same problem but it never went away. I could tell the needle was physically sticking because it wouldn't return to "0" when there was no boost (ie. truck turned off). Kinked tubing could cause something similar, but that would return to "0" when you unhook the boost gauge line (and mine didn't). I was able to return it to the local vendor where I purchased it, instead of having to deal with shipping it back and waiting for a new one.
ilikebikes, you said you called autometer, but did you call the place where you bought the gauge? have them look at what they have in stock and see if one has the stepped probe, if so have them swap the gauge and probe with you... i tried that but the local shop only had the new faulty bullet style.

No pic, but the faulty one is like a bullet shape on the end of the probe. If you have the faulty one I'm sure you can tell without pulling it... the gauges seriously moves SUPER slow.
I have the ultra-lite series too. And yes, they stick as well
The boost guage sticks sometimes until I get to 5 psi and then it will work normally from there. It also lets moisture inside the clear plastic cover so it fogs up on me. My pyro won't go back to zero whenever I shut the key off either. It falls down to about 100* and stays there. Seems to work ok when the key is on though. I'm getting rid of these turds and buying isspro!
