not running a wastegate how much boost are you seeing and is the boost consistent? I think if I get it im gonna need to get an external wastegate.Did you have to make your own plumbing to the innercooler?

You do not need a wastegate on a 5000...unless it is set at 85-100 psi. LOL

The plumbing is all all availible from "big rig" parts stores...or through ATS direct. I had my OEM intercooler boots forced on till I finally blew one in half.
The intake is the only thing slightley hard to plumb. I have a 4" to 5" adapter shoved into a 5" 90. It goes...

Turbo
5" Rubber 90 with 1-1.5" cut off the turbo side
5" to 4" reducer
4" aluminum intake pipe
4" 90
Scotty...

If I could find a 5" UNI...I would run the whole thing in 5".

stupid question

so is the A5K "set" at a certain amount of boost it is suppose to make and what is that amount. I want to race quick diesel and I need to be very consistent, w/out a wastegate it does not seem like it would be as consistent? Im just thinking out loud so please excuse my stupidity thanks again for the help

The A5k is non wastegated...so it only makes as much boost as the fuel you throw at it. I have sen mine creep up near 60 psi when making a long uphill pull set on 550 hp settings...

I would say non wastegated turbos are the most consistant...since it is only fuel in / boost out. Same amount of fuel...same conditions...same boost.

Wastegates are for turbos that are exposed to boost pressures higher than they are designed for. The A5k can handle anything you throw at it.

It will make as much boost as the fueling allows...a wastegate allows a tight, restrictive, but fast spooling exhaust side flow better at high RPM...A laggier, more open exhaust side doesn't have "as much" need for the wastegate. I say as much because some people who aren't pushing it very hard won't need it, but other who are pushing them very hard would benefit by having one!! Every turbo has a peak efficiency, whether it can stand to be pushed past that point or not, it is more efficient at certain boost levels!!

Sorry for the long post, I hope it helps!
