Anything wrong w/ using higher Smarty settings?

On a stock truck driving it around town like grandpa for the most part?

Scangauge II says better MPG using #5 on my truck. Stock trans. If I drive like a normal person / grandpa going speed limits is there a problem with this?

I would think the trans will struggle to keep up if I have my foot buried in the thing all the time...I would think that things will be ok using higher settings if I dont abuse the situation.

What do you all think?

i know 7 and 9 will prolly kill your tranny fast if you dont take it easy. If you run them, and your tranny starts slipping it kinda out weighs the added performance.

^^&^ I agree. I ran level 7 on my truck when it had all the weak links, old clutch, old fuel pump, turbo, etc, and while it was fine, you can definitly cause trouble. The main thing is its hard to control all that power and keep it from slipping when you need WOT for something, like passing someone and seeing a car coming your way. So I would suggest you stay on the safest high level, sw5 and maybe just bump up to moderate tq management.

I wouldn't go above mild TM with the stock automatic.

Shoulda looked harder. Yeah with the 48re I wouldn't exceed sw5 at all until some extra tranny work is done.

I drove to TS Perfomance's event this past weekend on level 9 4.4 beta(400+ miles one way)and got 19.2 mpg hand calculated.Decided to try level 3 for the ride home and only got 18.1. This was 95% interstate and driving like I had some sense about me.This is the first time I have ever had my truck off level 9 for any extended period of time.It went straight back to 9 when I got home!If your not jumping all over it I would say the higher levels will net better mpg's.

Get you tranny done before messing around with the higher levels. Even if you do have a light foot.
