Yet another Smarty question!?!
Yet another Smarty question!?!
Ok, I've read the threads, spoke with Bob Wagner and yet I still can't upload new software on my Smarty. By no means am I blaming my smarty or my computer. It is all me, my ignorant self. lol. It's actually not that funny. Ok, I have gone through all the steps and I still can't figure this out. This is the part that is STUMPING me.
When I plug my Smarty into the computer using USB cable, I cannot get anything to pop up on the computer stating there is new software, and I can't find it anywhere. WHERE IS IT????

Go to thread #8 and read AlpineRAM step by step procedure for installing drivers and software.

hmmm i cant remember what you have to do to change com ports. you may have to change from a com1 to com2. for it to read. I had to change that on my company laptop to communicate with the ECM on MTU's.

When I open the my computer file, it doesnt show anything for USB at all. Also, when I plug the Smarty into USB, the "Found New Hardware Wizard" does not show up! Why and where is it?
When you plug in the SMARTY to the computer via USB check the device manager. Go to Control Panel/System/Device Manager and look under the Universal Serial Bus Controller for a USB Serial Converter.

When I go to control panel, I can't even find Control Panel/System/Device Manager and look under the universal Serial Buss Controller. I know you guys are going to give up on me, cause now I am just being dumb.
When in the Control Panel look for a computer icon with 'System' beneath it. Click on it and System Properties box will pop open. Click the 'Hardware' tab and select Device Manager. At the bottom of the DM is the USB controller/hubs/devices....

Actually, there are virus's that delete your shortcuts to thing's like the device manager to prevent you from finding them and removing them so you may have been infected.
There is also more then one way to get to the device manager.
Right click on "My Computer" - Properties - Hardware - and there it is.

MikeyB, I went through there and it doesn't exist. When I right clicked the my computer and went through the steps that CamperAndy gave me, it came up perfectly. Thank you both SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much. Lets see what I can do from here. I think you too need a raise, oh and don't you two run off, I may need more help since I'm an idiot!!!
