anyone...

i tripped a code... it was a P2146 -fuel group 1

the dealship said it was my number 2 injector. it needs to be replaced. they gave me a quote for $1200.00 for the parts and labor....is that about right? only reason i'm asking is that would mean all of them would $7200.00. i know that some is the labor thing, where if you do one, five more isn't that much more labor. but $680 worth of parts? thanks again, berm

Ouch! They saw you coming. That is even high for a dealer. You can buy a whole set of Don M F1 injectors for $1200. I assume looking at you signature that you don't have warranty coverage for the injector.

My dealer told me if I got my own injectors they would do the complete install and testing for $350.

Of course my new Flux 2s were installed by Michael at HotRodDiesels.

What is with the 60hp nozzles in your signature? Is that what went bad?

That's about right.

2 - brand new injectors = $800
2 new crossover tubes = $60
labor ( who knows ) = $340

The guy that mentioned F1's for $1200 is correct but, that's if you have all of your own injectors to send him. Not for new bodies. If you have cracked bodies on the 2 bad one's... you'll have to buy whole new one's.

F1 website http://www.f1diesel.com/injectorsecho.html

tritont is correct you may have to pay for a new injector if it cannot be repaired.

I'd go with the suggested for a second opinion and send them all to Don. He may be able to repair the bad one or give you an option to deal with it. You have to go through one of his vendors to do it... I'd suggest Bob Wagner @ Smartypower

I don't know that he'd install your tips for you though since he sells his own. A few other places that are trustworthy and reliable to deal with injectors...

Scheid diesel
Industrial Injection
DDP

They all have their own test machines which many don't.

If an injector went bad, you'll have white smoke, rough idle and possibly a rise in oil level. If it's just one injector, you can have it whipped by yourself in 1-2 hours.

guys, thanks...

i just have a couple more questions. when a dodge dealership buys one injector. obviously oem, how much will it cost? $400? $600? they came up with a price of around $600! then aparently they think it will be all of 8 hrs to change it...does that sound right??? again, i am just starting to read more about injectors, but from what i've heard and read, it doesn't seem to be correct??? i stack a module and downloader. they said it was because of this. i knew it was, but of course they made it sound like it was the end of the world and i was doing major damage... i know, you play you pay. i do have a good relationship w/ these guys and thought that it would be about $800, but maybe they are seeing how far they can bend ol' berm over!!!

Actually, when you send them to Don he will test them and if they need to be rebuilt they will be 110 to 150 a piece extra per injector on top of the 1200. So around 1800 and you will be good to go. That is they route I will go if it happens to me.

you'll love this...

i go back to the dealership (browns) and i say, guy, listen i can get.....and started to say that i thought that the price was absolutely crazy. i even asked if that was with the KY or was that extra. the guy called me up and said, berm, your all set. $912.00! thats a lot better than $1200! anyway, i will send my injectors to don next spring and get them done. thanks again guys. its nice to know that you make it possible to approach the dealers with facts and tell them that maybe they should sharpen their pencil. i know some stuff, but again, not enough to feel all fuzzy and warm, when things go wrong.
