Is there any reason one might not want stronger valve springs on a stock cammed motor? Any annoying side-effects or anything?

No real side-effects. Don says that it'll add torque.

 

At least on the 12valves if you start to turn repeated rpms all the time the stock cam or a re ground cam can get beat up I don't know about the common rails. 4000rpm is not that much anyways so people should be safe running stiffer ovate springs

 

Go for it. you wont see maximum benefit until you get a cam but it will only help you out.

 

I am not going to rev it out all the time. I just like to get on it for short bursts a couple times a day. Right now it pops up to 3500 pretty quick.

 

That's kinda my idea for getting them and they are also great insurance so tht you don't float a valve

Especially off-roading in a mud hole or having fun getting sideways in the rain. I will be concentrating on driving and notice I am at 3500 rpm's in a heartbeat.

 

I'm no expert but, tighter springs will put more strain on the valves ( closing harder ) and possibly cause you to drop a seat. Not likely to happen but, you ask with could happen and seats on these trucks seem to drop a lot.
