another air filter question

i have the afe II with the pg7 and a prefilter skin. my question is would i get any benefit by removing the plastic air shield or whatever that thing is by the radiator. also by removing it could it cause damage or more dirt to enter my filter. my main concern is not hurting the longevity of the almighty cummins

I doubt you need any more air to it. Why bother?

My EGTs went down quite a bit by adding the AFE Stage 2. Prob 150 degrees when combined with a Magnaflow and kitty delete. I feel like it is getting plenty of air.

70-75 mph cruising = about 650-700 degrees.

No difference in EGT's with the BHAF. The kitty delete probably made the difference.

Yeah, mine had the Stage 2 AFE and exhaust changes done at the same time so I really don't know which had the most benefit on EGT reduction. Glad I did them both though.

roc155, I would be more concerned about water and stuff getting into the air intake if you start removing the front plastic shield parts by the radiator.

If you want to reduce EGTs and you haven't already done so....you should probably get rid of your stock muffler and put on a straight through style muffler such as Magnaflow or MBRP.

Mine is not loud at idle, but it does have a deeper rumble. Normal acceleration I don't really hear the magnaflow because of the AFE Stage 2 with silencer ring gone. I mean I know it's there, but it is not the loudness of the Mag that I notice.....because the Turbo Spooling is so prominent.

If I am going under an overpass, I really notice the Magnaflow then. Or if I stomp it and get up around 2200 + rpms...then the Magnaflow overtakes the AFE in noise level. It is a VERY nice sound when it does!!

Honestly, I can't tell you the difference between with Kitty and without. I only know it without. Mine ran away when it saw the Magnaflow coming.

The plastic guard did'nt seem to fit that good after installing my Techni-cooler so I left it off. Have noticed no difference. Then again I have an open element with a custom tube.

Kitties belong in your lap while your typing on the computer. Not on your truck!
