allison transmisson?
allison transmisson?
Ive read some where here that the allison trans will work on the cummins engine and they gave a part # cant remember where i found it any one heard of this
allison tranny?!
any one heard of a allison trany working with 5.9 cummins i saw it some where but cant find it.where ever i saw it they talked about a diffrent bell housing and gave a part #but it works i think they said it was for some kind of motorhome but will work in our trucks as well
Darren, An Allison 1000 tranny is rated for 330hp and 650 torque and costs $8000 . It needs a Powertrain Control Module to interface with the Dodge ECM. There is none. There are 48re's holding over 700 hp and 1200lb tq reliabley. Get a TC, VB and Flexplate and you will have a new truck feel and great performance for $2000 to $3000. ks

I can't give you a number , but try a motor home dealer that uses a Cummins and they should be able to help you . I have seen many 5.9's with Allison's in that type of application but putting a transfer case behind it may be a problem , I don't think it would be worth the money and time you would have involved . I think you would be way ahead building up a 48RE instead and in the end you would have a lot stronger and better transmission .
i spoke with a cummins rep and he told me in 02 they were looking at an allison and where testing the units and would have been released with the isbe.. it was a done deal
until the final moments they could not work out the details. he did not say what the details were. this blew my mind!

The larger Fords and Freighliner trucks with the 5.9 have an alison trans option. My Freightliner FL60 has a 6 speed alison. Not sure of the model number but I am pretty sure it is way to big to fit in a Pick up.

The fords and freightliner use an ISB but not the Common Rail.....the tranny is a 3000 series.....Im shopping for a FL60 right now and found just what I wanted just need the $$$$. Cummins and a 6 speed sooon to be 12speed. ks
Yep... and that ISB eats VP44 regularly...
On #4 right now ... 10,000 miles and 2300 hours. (truck runs a PTO most of the day). and this one is going bad.. Last week truck went dead pedal, no throttle control with PTO and check engine light..
ARGGGGG have to take a vacation again while the truck is at cummins for 4 days.

I'm about to pick up a '94 Chevy 3500 6.5 4x4 SRW for dirt cheap that I am going to deck out. I have also located a guy that has a bunch of CTD 600s and a few NV271s for sale. They were in some '05 Dodge duallies that were being transported by train to the $tealerships when the train wrecked, so they just have test mileage. Anyhow, he has them at about half of new cost, and no core charge (!).
Anyhow, here is what I want to do to the truck:
*Cummins 600
*Suncoast V Allison (with standalone controller)
*NV271 (if possible)
*a number of other mods not relevant to the thread
Will these three fit together (perhaps with adapters)?

I'm told Suncoast offers the PCM and it is in the $1500 range.
Tell me then, how does the Allison hold up to the latest Dmax (LBZ) which is 360hp 650 torque?
"and electronic safeguards prevent the transmission from being shifted in a manner that could cause engine damage or loss of vehicle control....
the transmission torque-manages the engine to limit tire slip on slippery road surfaces.
In addition to the sixth gear and range selection feature, the Allison 1000 also benefits from complementary upgrades that include:New 22-tooth pump that improves NVH
Upgraded 310-mm torque converter that improves torque capacity
New solenoids provide better converter lock-up control and shift feel
Upgraded rotating clutch that improves torque capacity
New A40, 32-bit transmission control module "

Maybe Joe from Suncoast could chime in!!??
Don't get me wrong....I think for stock trannies used within the specifications listed the Allison is the best light duty diesel tranny available. If our trucks had a 3000 series Allison I'd be happy. We have a 48re. I have a modded 48re....I'm happy. ks
