I wonder if Georges' son George or is brother George went out and built the HB? Kinda like the similar products in the diesel industry.
This the epitome of "YMMV".
This came up a few weeks ago, and as I said then opinions are like butts. Everyone will have one. I'm not going to say one it valid, another is not. I'll simply explain my take:
I like to run Airaid filters. Nice and beefy, 4 layers of cotton, 1 sythetic. NO Dirt has gotten through mine at all. I have no doubt the stock filter cleans very well. I have no doubt others do to. I've used others, sometimes good, sometimes not so good.
What do you want to give up? I've got super durable engine. I change my oil. I don't drive on particularly dusty roads (but do run dirt roads, not just pavement). I know that one jump with the stock filter would pull my filter minder down past 30%. Clearly the truck wanted more air than it could pull in. I changed to the Airaid (just the filter, not the cone style intake) and the MIT. Filter minder hasn't budged since. Truck spools faster too. Did my mileage increase? A little, really only when towing and it doesn't surprise me. How often do you actually drive around @ full throttle where you need that much air? My mileage seems to have gotten better for one reason. When pulling a grade, or some such the turbo spools quicker. The truck moves quicker because of it, and I don't find myself giving it as much pedal as before.
What do you need or want from a filter? I got what I wanted, which is to efficiently flow enough air to not pose a restriction AND keep dirt out. I got it, and I'm happy. What more could I want, I got the two things I was after. And I got it with what I felt suited my needs best. I'll also recommend it to my customers if their needs are the same as mine. If they want something else, we'll deal with that accordingly.
Reading these posts are funny. You have all these differing opinions. And guess what, you always will. Figure out what makes sense, and go from there.
