Someone posted a writeup from one of the diesel power magazines and they did a test of about 5 different intakes and there was basically zero difference between any of them except look, cost, noise, and ease of installation - performance wise they were all pretty much the same if I recall.

I've seen both, but only used the S&B. I admit, the AFE is very nice, but not worth $200+ more. My S&B has served me well.

Anyone else got any more feedback on the different air intakes? I'm looking for one for my 6.7L.

I made a Whilly's Whistler on a buddy of mines 6.7 with an afe filter part number 24-90010 with a pre filter part number 28-10034. Best bang for the buck by far.

I think afe uses 7 layer filters and therefore flow sligthy higher than an s&b which uses an 8 layer filter. Either way, you are going to get plenty of air. If you want to pay more for more flow or less for better protection from dust and dirt is the only question.

I think it all depends on what you want to do...

Filters that you have to oil tend to flow more air, filters that you don't have to oil tend to filter better and flow less air.

If you want to be inexpensive with it, replace the stock filter with a drop in of your choice, and modify the stock air box.

Or...buy a cone style filter of your choice, and do a homemade intake...do a search and see what people have done with parts from the hardware store.

Or...if you want underhood bling...go with an expensive aftermarket cold air kit.

IMO, the filter makes all the difference, and the rest is just for looks and sounds.

I have had my S&B CAI for 3 months now and can say that it has given me a solid 1mpg increase with my normal driving. This is compared to stock. It is a great product and has a much better price than the AFE.

If I were to do it all over again, I'd get the DPM kit. You modify the stock air box, install a new silicone tube between the charger and the air box, install an aFe drop in filter and the install another tube going from the modified air box down the bumper to draw in cold air instead of engine bay air. I plan on modifying my aFe box to run some sort of hose down to the bumper to draw in cooler air. The DPM kit is extremely cheap and will probably give you the similar results that any CAI kit will give you.

The AFE stg2 gets my vote, I pulled my Airaid for the AFE and I see 3-4 more psi max boost. The AFE also has more filtering media than anything I've seen. IMO it's worth the $ if you have it.

AFE Stage -2 has served me well over the years on both a 2-nd Gen Truck, and 3-rd Gen Dodge.
My Brother has an S & B on his 2-nd Gen Truck and has been happy with the peformance from it. ( I think one ends up paying more for that Bling Factor, They are all probably pretty close in performance. I enjoy the Fit and Finish Look with my AFE Stage-2, But I pay the price , But hey it;s one of my Few Passions in Life, get what mamkes you happy.
