AFE question

Looking around at the different AFE cold air intakes and I noticed there are a couple of options so which one do I need, the stage 1 or stage 2 and proguard 7? I'm alittle confussed because they don't really explain the differance...LCH

Proguard if you live on a dirt road or dusty environment.
Stage 2 is more robust setup with a larger tube and filter inlet.

The proguard 7 is a little more restrictive in air flow but I guess thats why it filters out more junk.

stage 1 is good for mild power upgrades, stage II flows more air and is quieter, Proguard 7 has seven lavers of filtering media vs. four layers, so filters out more dirt for people driving in dusty conditions.

The AFE Mangnum Force Stage I is really the original intake system. It replaces the air box and filter. The Torque Tube for the Stage I is what use to make it the Stage II setup. About a year or so ago they came out with a new Stage II system that has the Torque Tube built in. The new Stage II system uses a bigger filter and filter inlet tube.

The Pro-Guard 7 filters provides better air filtration than their standard filter.

Which is best is subjective, they both are an improvement over the stock box. Stage I and Torque Tube combination is a little cheaper.

I have had the Stage I and Torque Tube for over a year. I have both the standard and Pro-Guard 7 filters and I use a Pre-Filter on both.

Here is the AFE propaganda site so you can decide:

Thanks guys! your replies made it all clear. Think I'll opt for the stage II with pro guard 7. Alot of the job sites we get in around this time of year are pretty dusty from lack of rain.
Any of you have any negative effects from one of these filter systems? LCH

I just had the stage 2 with the filter sack (yellow of course) installed last Friday and man does the turbo whine now!!!
Also had a performance muffler from Bully Dod installed at the same time. Next week the new Bully Dog chips and controller.

If you like to hear Turbo Whistle noise..........You will not be disappointed in the AFE Stage 2. It will give you all the noise you want. Be sure to remove the silencer ring too, for even MORE noise.

I can hear mine spooling just backing out of the driveway. Sometimes, I wish I could hear my Magnaflow exhaust more (over the AFE)...but it just doesn't kick in till a higher rpm.

I think he mistyped that. Stage is louder than stage 1 no doubt.

The Stage II is louder, not by much but if you want it as loud as possible you can remove the filter top, it was designed and included to help quiet things down so removing it louden's them up.

On another note the Stage II does not include the same torque tube that comes as an option with the Stage I or as an option on a stock air box. It comes with a totally different one that has an expansion chamber design, with a 6 inch inlet size and does a lot more velocity wise than a standard 4 inch Torque Tube! Just wanted everyone to know what they are getting when they pay the extra cost for a Stage II system! You get a larger metal housing, large 6 inch ID filter, the top to make it quiet and the mandrel 6 inch ID intake tube.

I would recommend the stage I. If you feel you need more later, get the torque tube. The stage II will be quite a bit louder than the stage I due to removing the stock down tube with the baffles/scoops.
