aFe Intake and Exhaust a Done Deal
I put the aFe system 2 air intake in a couple of days ago and the cat-back went in today. It produced an immediate and very noticible improvement in performance:
- smoother at idle and no appreciable change in sound level at idle;
- much improved acceleration from a standing start with absolutely no hesitation or turbo lag, quicker response when accelerating from in 4th @ 30 -35 mph in traffic,
- quicker to rev to 2500 in all gears and "feels" much better @ 50 - 55 mph in 5th -no urgency to get into 6th because reving in 5th is so much less strained, in fact I was surprised on the first couple of runs up to 60 to find that I was doing 55 before it occurred to me that an upshift was in order;
- probably about a 75 degree F. in EGT at 60 mph with no load but this is hard to determine because it was much colder and windier than it's been for the past couple of days;
- turbo and air flow definitely noticable now but I like it;
- exhaust noise at 60 a little louder than stock but not unpleasantly so and no detectable drone.
I think the most practical change in towing performance will be in the difference in the way the truck feels in 5th. It felt like it would comfortably run all day at 2170 (55 mph) or 2365 (60 mph) whereas stock 5th was just a gear to get out of. Running on moderate grades in 5th at those speeds will go a long way to keeping EGT's more reasonable and us traveling at a reasonable speed.
Except for the ridicules cost factor I'd recommend the system to anybody, but what the heck it's only money.
Only thing is, I'm not sure how my poor old wife is going to react when she finds out that now I've got a 5" polished stainless steel tip.

I 2 have just put the AFE STAGE II and I put the Silverline 4'' turbo back,Yeh more in and more out is always a good combo.,At first I was a little leary on spending 450.00 on just an intake, but now,worth every penny.
