Advice Wanted For Upgrading My Steering

I want to upgrade the steering on my 2006 Megacab. I'm wondering if people could make suggestions. One of things I'd like to do is the steering box stabilizer: http://www.solidsteel.biz/

Isn't upgrading the sway bar and steering shocks a good idea too? Other than those three things, is there anything else that is worth the $$$?

I see there are some single steering shock upgrades and some double. Does it make a difference? The only stipulation I have for the steering shock is that I'd like it not to be red in colour. Blue is good, black is best.

As a side note, I've got a Carli starter system for shocks and springs. I've also got 35" tires.

Steering Box Brace is a good idea. I got one of the PSC ones of ebay. Built great and only cost me like 140 bucks.

I also got a Thuren adjustable track bar. I could instantly feel a differance in how my truck handled over bumps. The rest of my front end is stock so I can not say that yes doing this will make an improvment or not... Sorry.

Don Thuren or Sage Carli can help you.

I think that upgrading to the 08 steering set-up is a worthwhile investment, if you haven't done this already. With this, the Carli set-up and ball joints that you already have and a steering box stabilizer I would think that you would be happy. Then, if you still wanted to do more, sway bar and trac bar upgrades ( at least end links and bushings). I wish that I would have spent the money on the Carli ball joints now.

Not long after I put in my lift I added a dual steering stabilzer shock setup. I hated it. Made the steering extremely stiff like my '02. Now I run a Thuren setup and would never go back. Along with the adjustable track bar I think these two things made the biggest difference in how my truck steers. Also I have a Defiant brace and honestly didnt notice much difference with it. Did it more for peace of mind taking some stress off the pitman shaft.

What's in the 08 steering upgrade? My dealership mentioned it a while back and said it costs $850 CAD, I believe.

Very valuable information so far...THANKS!

It's easier to show you. Start by reading this thread.
https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...eering+upgrade
The first one has added grease zerks.
http://www.sourceautomotive.biz/shop...ge-483-32.html

or for stock Dodge parts with no zerks

https://www.dodgeparts.com/oe_parts_...eb2ebce692d7a0

The part #'s that I had are. Verify part#'s before ordering as they may have changed.
52122362 AE Steering kit
52122370 AA Steering dampner
6505623 AA (3) Nuts to attach new linkage
6502835 (2) Nuts to attach dampner
6502473 (1) bolt to attach dampner
Most are just using a new stock stabilizer that is designed to work with the kit. I put it on my truck and it has improved the steering feel especially when towing. Also it doesn't seem that I have near the bump steer that I had

Here's the link to the Adjustable Track Bar from Thuren...he offers powder coating for free now so if you get one make sure you get that done.

It's suprising how much these track bars cost...considering what they are! Wow!

I have been looking at track bars and wounder why no one offers one with heims at both ends. i have fought track bars on my jeep with a bushing at one end and they dont last. now with joints at both ends the steering feels way better. why does someone not offer one for our trucks with joints at both ends.

Stiffness??? Not really sure. I wondered that when I got mine too. Seems like it would be alot easier to replace them.

Thuren's tracbar is awesome. Well worth the money. As far as those wondering about cost, go ahead and come up with a design that will work and then see what your shop liability says about manufacturing steering components. Two years after I purchased mine there was some play in the bushing where it mounts to the frame. Called Don and he sent an upgraded replacement out immediately and refused any payment. Thuren or Carli are the only way to go. Tested and built right. JM.02
