Question 600 Series

Hi all, I keep seeing and hearing about the 600 series being introduced mid 2004. I thought it was going to be in all 2004's? I just purchased a 2004 with the Cummins how can I tell if it is the new 600? The dealer said it was but you know how they can be. I would like to know. If its not what is the difference? This is my second Cummins, first one was a 2000. Made a dumb mistake had a GM product in between bad mistake. But got my head back now, its all good now Any help would be greatly taken!

myglide,

My engine details were found on the window sticker and the underhood label on the driver's side valve cover.

One way to check is to see if you have a rubber hose to control the wastegate if you do then its not a 600, if you have a electronic controlled wastegate , it is a 600.

Hope this helps.

Look at the valve cover sticker. If it says 305 hp its not a 600 and you can count yourself lucky. If it says 325 hp it the 600 and I feel for ya.

Can we knock off that generalization yet? It's been proven that many 600's do get decent mileage. Sure they have an abnormally high percantage of guzzlers, but just because it's a 600 doesn't mean it gets crappy mileage. I've got my fingers crossed that my '05 on order gets at least 17-18MPG highway, and I don't think that's a pipe dream... just as good as my '99 is all I'm hoping.

To answer the original poster's question, just look at the sticker on the side of the engine...
