SRT Hood ?

I keep seeing some new Dodges in town with the SRT hood ? Can you buy these hoods somewhere else or do you have to buy them from Dodge ? Are they an option for 04.5 ? Aftermarket ?

I saw one or two on ebay a week ago. I thought the pricing was around 500 to 600 dollars. You might try it.

Do the hoods serve a functional purpose for the diesels or is it just for show?

When I ordered mine I gave $660 for it, which included the parts for the scoop. It was also on nationwide backorder. I had it about 3 weeks after ordering it. Had it painted and on the truck 3 days after getting it.

As it is basically just a fancy hole in the hood, the main thing it does (other than make the truck look better ) is lower the under hood temp. I have been thinking that when I install an open air filter set-up I might try ducting the air from the hole towards the air filter.

SRT Hood

I have one. There are pictures on TDR. Do a search for Awesome Look. I get more compliments and comments on that hood than anything else I've done. Yes it is DCX only and is in their Accessory catalogue. I waited a month or so to get mine on back order. The price that people are quoting is on the nose. As for functionality,..I don't really think there is any except for what one member commented on about reducing underhood temps. Also there was a post on this previously and I believe it was Rousch Racing that did some heavy testing on that hood and it wasn't worth ...... for air induction and that explains why if you see a real SRT-10 there is no ducting on it either. Also with the factory hood/bug deflector I can tell you that water/heavy rain and such is not an issue as nothing gets on your engine. I've pulled the hood after driving highway speed and no water during a real deluge. That's good in my opinion. All in all,...I'd do it all over again as it looks super cool and let's a lot of heat out from under that hood.

What did you do about the silencer mat on the under side of the hood, I have ordered one and was wondering if the one from your old hood fit it, or did you buy one, or just leave it off, if you left it off was the engine louder????

Thanks

The silencer mat does not fit the SRT-10 hood, maybe if you hacked it up it might. Before I had my hood installed I had removed the mat and did not notice an increase in the level of sound coming from the front of the truck. But then while every one else has been trying to make their trucks so quiet they can not hear them, I'm trying to make mine a bit louder.

I would have done that if I was smart enough to know how. I didn't even post my own pictures as I don't have a digital camera and never did any of that before. Anway,..there is a much better picture on TDR under that Awesome Look post. Obviously it wasn't me that posted it but it is a better picture and look than the one above in that the Silver truck above has a lot of UP Front stuff on his truck which detracts from the look,..IMO. Hope I didn't offend the owner,..just not my thing. I believe the pic I'm talking about was on a black one if anyone can retrieve it. Later

SRT hood price

I could be wrong here since it's been awhile, but I think it was around $535 and then the scoop piece is over a $100. And I got it at dealer pricing. The $450 sounds like a brother-in-law deal and more power to you if you can buy that cheap. Wish I had.
