Hey all,

I've got a couple of questions on the new engines.

What's the first year that has the 600 series engine in it?
Any major problems with that first year of production?
Should I buy one that is a little newer inorder to skip any of the "bugs" that usually get worked out in the first year of production?

2004.5 is when the 600 came out. 1/04 build date of the truck. Also look at the valve cover label, it will say 325hp on it, so you can identify it easily.

As for issues, mine has been great.

Just find the truck, the options that you want and the right price, and if its in good shape....I wouldn't worry about it being a 2004.5 or a 2005.

 

I too have an 04.5 and have had no problems engine related. The only things that I've had wrong is a leaking power steering pump when it was brand new and a squeaky clutch pedal. I don't know of any other problems particular to the 04.5.

 

Only thing I've heard that is an absolute buzz killer with the "600" motors is for a short time in '05 they went to a plastic end tank intercooler. The failure rate in these is pretty close to "spectacular" and was abandoned pretty quick. If it's still under warranty I wouldn't worry about it.
