Picked up the 86131M Nelson from Cummins Northwest today. This muffler does not have a baffle in it, it is a straight through design!

Went back to Meineke to have it installed, they installed the new one and didn't charge me for it! I'd like to give Meineke a BIG THANK YOU! If anyone is looking for someone to install their muffler, you might want to give Meineke a call! They treated me very good!

The 86131M sounds similar to the 86713M, but the 86713M had a baffle and it seem to have a bit of a whistle also.

FleetPride told me that when the got the 86713M back, they would credit my account. They are standing behind that muffler.

Hrmmm...while I didn't ask Steve Burnette in Service/Engineering at Fleetguard about the 86131M he did say:

I do not know of any Nelson muffler with a straight through design.

Guess he needs to brush up some

Thanks for the first hand info Big Bob.

Matt,

I think 86131M (no Baffle) is even quieter that the 86713M (with Baffle).

Here's some info:

Just thought I would throw that out there since most of you indicate the noise factor is a big issue.
Just wanted to say thanks for that info AK RAM, I made up my mine to give it a try. Parts are ordered- I will be using a Banks 4" down pipe then 5" all the way since this muff is 5" in and out.

Flow on the Silent Partner is 2652 CFM @3" of water and 1630 CFM @ 1" water. My goal is a flow increase, EGT decrease and keep it quiet.

Hey Big Bob, how do you know which ones have baffles or not? I just ordered a 34" Nelson p/n 86127M. Would this one have a baffle?

Sorry schorb, I don't have any way to find out. The only reason I knew that the 86713M had a baffle is because I bought it. Then I replaced it with the 86131M which didn't have the baffle.

Sorry.

I was experimenting with exhaust tip at Rip's. We slid a 4" x 5" x 24" on, then a 4" x 5.5" x24" and finally a 4" x 6" x 24" SS Exhaust tip on, and listen to each one. The bigger the diameter the better the sound! I went with the 4" x 6" x x24"! It sounds and looks awesome!

I'll post some picture shortly!

I (newbie to the board) have been following this thread and I have a ? What do you guys think would be the power gain of putting the 51" muffler on a stock 04.5? Also, perhaps a better air filter inlet system to boot. Any one have a guess? Thanks

Power gain as in HP is none, but you do get lower EGT'S and quicker spool up though.

I swapped out the stock muff on my 03 and it does help. If I had a 600 I would do the muff swap in a heartbeat!

There is a power increase associated with quicker turbo spool. Not more peak horsepower, but more horsepower sooner....more area under the curve. I would call that a performance increase!

Agreed, That's one way to look at it.

Do you have the new muffler in yet? How do you like it? What is the part number and where did you get it? I am after the same effects you are.

I just wanted to say that I've had my 34" on for about a month now and still love it! I'm not going to say for certain yet, but I believe I'm seeing about a 1-2 mpg increase with it. I've really been hitting the go-pedal hard and so it's been anywhere between 16-18 mpg, but I'll know more after my next fill-up. My last fill-up I hand calculated it at 18.6 mpg!! I normally see in the low 17's or upper 16's.

I'm getting my exhaust tip from Geno's tomorrow (crossing fingers), cause I've been getting the rocker panels dirty from the exhaust smoke. The bumper is still getting discolored, so I'm hoping by extending the tip a little bit, it will help with all of this.

But love the muffler!!
